Digi Cabi or Aipo Dry Cabinet for Starters

Hi, im looking for a dry cabinet too.
After reading all the post, am i right to say that

1) If u want to save money, just get an Aipo or Digicabi AD (Analog dehumidify system) series and learn how to set it correctly and check regularly (How often?).

or

2) If u dont mind paying $100 extra, get an Aipo or Digicabi DHC (DIGITAL dehumidify system) series and let the machine do what it does best.

AND get an additional hygrometer into the cabinet for assurance incase the cabinet is wrong or faulty?

Am I right?

Im thinking about the Aipo 30L DHC which costs $180

Hi atanism...read my post above. It sums up your question.

when we put in the DSLR into the dry cabinet. so we need to remove the camera battery?

Yes, as for me, i would.
Leaving the battery in the camera will make the battery's lifespan shorter. I would always take out my battery when not in use. ;)
Correct me if i'm wrong!

If the battery can be left for up to a week without any usage. If the storage is longer than a week, then it's advisable to take the battery out.

Leaving the battery in the camera will not shorten lifespan, it will continue to discharge at a much faster rate compared to leaving it outside the camera.

so is it advisable to remove the battery and store it outside the dry cabinet?

or it is ok to leave the battery in the camera in the dry cabinet?

Leaving it in the dry cabinet or outside would not make any difference. Most people leave it in the dry cabinet so that all their gears are consolidated in one spot.

Important note: Never leave dry cells ie the normal energizer or duracell AA or AAA batteries in the dry cabinet as the dry environment will evaporate the electrolyte at a much faster rate and hence shorten the shelf life of the battery. Dry cell batteries are not sealed as compared to the Ni-Cd and Ni-MH or Li-ION.

Ok, I have finally purchased another dry cabinet (Aipo 88L), and setting the RH at 40; however the manual does recommend from 30 -40%; while this thread recommends from 40-45%; though Hotwork77 gave some technical explanation, that even between 30 - 80% (thereabout); it would make no difference.

What do other users think?

Just a side note, i went to play with their 550D before i got my machine and guess what, we saw red ants crawling on the cam. So that tells you much about how stocks are kept i guess.:dunno:

Analog dry cabinet by far does not fluctuate. It remains constant provided you do not adjust the dial. During the setting stage, it is the most troublesome to set as it take awhile to settle down.

To confirm whether it is spoilt or not is to get a simple hygrometer and put it in your cabinet and see what is the reading.

You can buy one of these hygrometer cum thermometer at our local Home-Fix DIY store for about $20. If the reading shows your set is spoilt then determine whether to get a new set for about $135 - $300 depending on the volume or send your old set for a quick repair.

Digi-Cabi ML 30L???

There's only AD.When did a new version came out?

Anyway if you're talking about the AD(I don't think there's a DHC 30L),Parisilk HV is one of the cheapest at $105...

Just want to share about dry cabinet , I always think that dry cabinet was an exaggerated thing, but last week I was forced to clean up the store room aka "bomb shelter" by my wife, and there it was, I found my loving canon EOS 300D, my first digital slr from 2004 which I stop abused it around 2 years ago.
To my surprise, when I open the box, the black rubber grip was sticky and seems melting, and the metal on bothside (for neckstrap) was rusted.. Damn!
I was so sad coz this camera have alot of memories and already got me so many things back then, inculding my wife and my downpayment for my house..
So today, I will buy dry cabinet :)
