I tot I'll just share the black background version since some had requested it.;)

I think it might need more light for the black version.

Err, what material are your white and black backdrop made out of? And what sort of spotlight do you use?
 

I think you might want the place the ring somewhere else rather than beside the windows? The reflection on the inner part of the ring doesn't looks nice.
 

how abt putting the ring on the finger itself? some ads also do that too

may be can go to those jewllery shop website and take a look how they compose the pic...
 

How do you keep the ring standing on its own?

White bkgrd = I have 2 version, 1st is a smooth white semi-glossy paper, like brochures, the other a white plastic paper plate. Both material yield similar results.

Black bkgrd = a matt black carboard

As for the need for more light... I tot so.

Points noted. I chose the setting beside the large ceiling to floor window for 2 reasons, 1) natural lighting and 2) to use the complex grid and panel windows to cast some colour/reflections on parts of the ring that otherwise would become plain white.
