hi everyone, i was trying to edit my photos on photoshop to make them like post cards wif a white or black border. i edited them to be size 2:3 eg : 1500 x 1000
and 1800 x 1200 . develop them as 4R
However, the photos didn't come out nice as in some parts of the border were cut out. and the photo looks closer to the left bottom corner mostly.
Does anyone know how to tackle with this problem?
i developed them at a parkway parade photoshop. They develop digital prints only 20cents if it is more then 100(i think) does the photoshop that i develop the prints matter?
how can i solve this?

hope for all ur advice.
thanks.

y dun u juz print as per normal and leave it to the lab to put in the borders for u....KT at chinatown does it....most others i know of also do ...

cheers..

I've done this before.

If you only want a 4mm white borders, just use the lab's defult border should be fine.

If you want a custom borders (black, gray or texture), you need to run some test prints on the particular lab first.

Let say you do a 4R image (1800x1200), in PS,

1. selection, select all,

2. Transform selection, 99%

3. Stroke, 3pix, inside, red color.

4. Repeat step 1, 2 & 3, but now transform 98%, and stroke with blue color.

5. Repeat step 1, 2 & 3 again, but now transform 97%, and stroke with green color.

You should have 3 thin color line, can try more different setting also, send this image for print, ask for fill in (defult setting by the lab). Once the print is out, you will know the top cut away how many %, bottom cut away how many %, so on and so forth.

So base on this data, add in the tickness of your custom borders, run a test print again to confirm.

If this test print turn out well, than you may use this setting for the rest of the images.

Hope this help.

hey thanks gerald and catch lights, sorry i just changed my nick. It's unusual telling ppl i'm their father. hmm.... u mean just tell them wat border i want can already ar? then gerald, how many do u print normally, with border. Ok.... think i'm confusing myself.
Ok again, how do u go about doing it? how do u specify if u have like 100 photos to develop and only afew needs border?

ok so basically wat you're saying is that i use only one lab to develop photos and i have to go there like twice to confirm how they resize my photo isit?

Then different labs have different standards la. m i correct to say tt?

but i don't understand wat is to ask for "FILL IN" ?

PLS ADVICE THANKS
