there is a delayed installation of the new database server. from about mid-Oct to 'before the end of the year'. there were members who donated funds for the purchase of the new server. installation deadline were given then. why were they not followed through? where's the accountability? were there updates?

if there were periodic updates, pls pardon me.

if i had missed updates on this issue, please direct me to them.

The very simple truth is that we had already ordered and received the server in October, but in the course of installation and testing, we discovered that the server was intermittently corrupting data and we have been working with the vendor to find out the root cause.

Thus, the server has been back and forth between us and the vendor for the past few weeks. The last thing we want to do is to install something that is more problematic.

There is no consipracy theory here, and we will stand by our promise to members on installation of the new server, albeit at a date that currently changing due to factors that are beyond our direct control.

thanks. i will assumed that periodic updates have not been furnished to members.
Btw, i am surprised that members here seem to have shown scant interest in this. going by my thread alone, with no inputs from others.

Hi,

This website is maintained by moderators and administrators on a voluntarily basis and I find that they are doing a great job. It is not that other members of this forum don't show interest in the progress of the database server but we entrust this enormous task to the moderators and administrators who are working behind the scene.

Aside to Darren,

Really appreciate the hard work that you and the rest are doing in maintaining this fabulous website. Hope to see the new database server in action soon. Just take your time to get it up, the last thing we wanted to see is a server with bugs or problems.

Are we on the new database server ? :)
Not yet, but a method to limit the server loading has been actively implemented to ensure the site does not get crippled from too many concurrent online users.

As for the new database server, the hardware has finally been sorted (i hope!!) after an extremely long delay due to a multitude of problems. Providing everything goes as planned, I expect to make some announcements in a week or so.

the phrase 'barring unforseen circumstances' is more apt to compared to 'providing everything goes as planned'.

Since we are on this server thing, I personally think the "Similar Threads" feature displayed at the bottom of each thread is unnecessary. I wonder how many people actually click them. I don't. Disable it might help to reduce the server load.

How often do you use it that is the question. If this software is hackable, then may be can provide a link to do the search.
