Deciding between Tammy 17-50 and Sony 16-50 2.8

Although Tammy 17-50 is good enough for it's optics and built, but don't forget the SAL1650 is actually a "G" lens (The "G" title is only accorded to lenses of the highest performance) based on a review from -> AE2-16-50
May the POISON be with you!

You wont see the G label on the lens itself, but many sites has said it has been designed as a G lens. The G label was not printed as they still want to preserve it for the Fullframe lens

Sounds like de canon ef-s 17-55/2.8 IS which is known as L lens in disguise. Seems like manufacturers prefer not to put a premium branding on cropped lens. Maybe they scared it will de-value de premium branding.

Thats why the 16-80 is the last cz lens for DT as reported by SAR previously.

But then some G lenses are not really performing as good as the legendary minolta G, for example 35/1.4G which is seriously expensive and soft for such a premium lens. Needs update on these exotic lenses really.

What about Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8?

For sony mount, i will get sony 16-50 as its better built, AF ring doesnt move and sharpness around similar or slightly better at cheaper price.

For canon/nikon mount, i would recommend sigma.

just had my hand on the a77+1650 f2.8 ssm, i must say i am extremely impressed with the 16-50. very sharp. the look/make/feel is even better than the cz16-80. it's probably the best lens to carry around...imo.

Anyone know if the sony 16-50mm F2.8 lens is available for sale separately?

Yes, can be bought separately. Ex though.

anyone tried the 16-50 coupled with A55? how it performs?

If you want a street shooting lens, why not just buy the $300 35mm 1.8 SAM. To me, its a perfect street lens and significantly outperforms the zooms. Probably outperforms the G zoom.

Or the Minolta 28 f2.8 very nice lens and IQ and cheap also :-)

Looks like Sony 16-50 2.8f is extremely hard to get now. Everyone is out of stuck and they say that supplies will come only in March.

What about getting 16-80CZ f3.5-4.5 instead? For A65 body. Is it worth it?

Damn, Sony 16-50 2.8f looks like perfect lenses for filming as they are quite and fast, but waiting till March is ridiculous! ><

when you need a f2.8. you need a f2.8, there is no two ways around it.

Totally agree ! ...I've got the 50f1.8 too but the 35f1.8 is just sharper and more usable. It's now my favourite lens with the LA-EA2 adaptor on the 5N.

Got this lens FOC together with a Maxxum 7, Ebay deal. ...The DT 35f1.8 is far better.

So anyone selling his old 35 1.8 ??
I might be surely interested.

Have checked the B&S , nothing at the moment.
