December Outing Discussion

Actually I'm thinking of having two outings for Dec. : early month for the North Explorer Park Connector, mid to later month for Christmas Lights. How do you think?

Meeting Charlie at 8am tomorrow morning to check out North Explorer Park Connector.

Shooting through the cages & fences.

Actually, in the avery, I think you can shoot the parrots (not sure I named them correctly) without the fences and cages.

But I do agree that most of the birds are in cages.

I like city shoots too ... but never been a good street shooter.

So I am for anything, as long as I get to shoot, and I am not heading up North.

Hello everyone!
My first posting shall be in a Pentax forum!

Rather keen to join this december outing but haven't got my DSLR! (my first!)
kinda stuck between a k-x (esp. with the SITEX offer) or the k-r
and what lens kit to go for.

but thanks for all the amazing photos posted throughout this subforum!

The DAL18-55mm is a good lens to start DSLR photography with. For $599 the K-x should come with the DAL 18-55mm Kit Lens.

The K-r also comes with the DAL 18-55mm lens too.

thanks for the reply! is it worth it to splurge 910 for the k-r w the single lens kit
was reading a thread on pentaxforums, the 55-300mm seems good too. (though i have no idea what it effectively means)

The DA 55-300mm is one of the best cheap (i.e. consumer grade) 50-300mm zooms out there, plus its fairly compact and light.

The one that comes as a kit with the K-x/K-r is the DA-L version, which means it has a more plasticky contruction, but it should be optically the same. More importantly, getting it as part of the kit is extremely cheap (about $300 bux as part of a kit compared to about $600 if you buy the DA version from a shop).

I believe you won't get a lens hood if you buy as part of a kit, but thats a pretty minor point.

Do feel free to join us for breakfast before the outing even if you don't have a camera by then.

i think is better to go with k-r for new user... no point get k-x and regert later that missing a bit function for saving about $200... of cos if you are sure the the extra function you don't really need then go for K-x!
anyway you should be in time for the outing when you buy any cam during sitex time...:bsmilie:

So who should buy a k-x? so far I know k-x still punch a good fight on k-r especially when considering it's good (low) price...

Meeting Charlie at 8am tomorrow morning to check out North Explorer Park Connector.

Went to Admiralty Park and entered by the North Entrance, walked to West Entrance and back. Took this.

Among the two, chose the k-x since I'm a beginner and wanted to learn the basics first anyway... Photography is an expensive hobby, so I don't want to blow big bucks straightaway also. So far it's a pretty good dslr to start out with.

Then if better liao, upgrade to k-5! :bsmilie: By that time maybe got even newer and better pentax model liao...

actually if you are really into photograhy... the best way to save is actually go for the best straight away... u dun lose money selling unwanted stuff...:bsmilie:

At the current price the K-x is very hard to beat as the best beginner camera :)

That's true~! :bsmilie: Maybe no confidence ba~ Realistically speaking, I still dunno whether I will be really "into photography" or simply just want better control in "photo-taking", just something I'll have to discover for myself along the learning journey.

That's why I think it's better to start with something I'll be comfortable with right away.
