I admit that I contribute to the delays at times due to jio-ing him to drink kopi. LOL! He is a man of great patience and he does not like to do slipshoddy work. As someone mentioned here, he also help to fix up hidden faults that he noticed while repairing your camera. He is a honest camera technician.

Genie, I urge you to stop delaying him :nono:
Rangefinder's been there almost 6wks now

But i'm only kidding, i wouldnt want speedy work at the expense of quality of it. :bsmilie:

My first visit to Master Tay today.

It is true. The man is a legend.

The guy's great. Brought my camera to him cos I suspected that something was wrong with it.. After some checks, he said there wasn't really anything wrong and that he wouldn't 'repair' it even if I wanted him to. Really honest chap who wouldn't take your money for no good reason.

He even helped loosen up a stiff focus ring on an old lens of mine for free. =)

 for Mr Tay!

Was at De Camera today and met Phillip Tay. Asked him to quote me for CLA work on my Leica M4-2. Was told its $280 and would take a week although he'll call me if he can finish after 3 days. I decided not to do it but he cleaned my lens and camera body anyway for free. Very nice and knowledgeable fellow, love to share his experience with cameras. Ended up picking up a Gordy handstrap and soft release at reasonable prices.

If you have decided to leave your camera with phillip tay be prepared to wait.

When I sent mine to him and he promised 1 week. It has been 6 weeks now and my camera is still with him; unfinished. Needless to say i am kinda dissapointed with time taken. My first camera that i sent to him was finished within stipulated time though.

I sent in my contaflex last July, and I'm still waiting for it. :)

I can attest to it. Previously I sent my Leica IIIf w/ lens to Mr Tay for CLA which he promised to be done in 2 weeks time. It has been many weeks past and I am still waiting for it :(

But I believed he really takes pride in his work. He had changed my LC-A leatherette, from start to finish I had watched him - very impressed with his attention to details. He even shared with me a tip or 2 about leatherette alignment, etc...

Initially I brought my Moskva-5 on the spot for him for accessment for CLA. He just took out the lens and clean it on the spot! (with his cleaning chemicals, lotsa cotton buds, and pressure tank blower). And he even checked the lens rangefinder focusing, and all these he didn't even charge me a single cent!!

Kudos Mr Tay!

Yeah.. though it's my first time sending my camera for him to clean up, through the conversation can really feel his passion and pride about his work. Can't wait to see my babe restored and alive again!! :)

Mr. Tay never fails to impress customers visiting the first time

Just called him few days back, seems like he's trying to get some parts for the shutter from oversea and they are still looking for it... got no choice but to wait... :(

Hey he said the same about my camera! What's your camera model? Mine is Leica CL.

Hmm, strange. I got a camera with him for more than a month, supposedly he promise the CLA and leatherette covering will be done in 2 weeks time. He told me he is sourcing for my leatherette and still waiting for his supplier.

Apparently his source for the leatherette, Aki Asahi in Japan, seems to have halted production of camera leatherette and has not been responding to new orders.
