I am eyeballing the Tamron Super Zoom 18-270 with stabiliser for this...its only $800+...but duno when I can save enough for it.:bsmilie:

18-200VR is a very good lens for video because the zooming and focusing is very smooth plus an 11.1x zoom. ;p

Thats why I am using the 18-105 VR to shoot video now mostly...but still tried with my 50 f2.8 macro for shallow DOF effect.:)

I really hope one day Nikon will have a lens when VVR (Video Vibration Reduction).:bsmilie:
;p

pity i don't have it :p

Plus, Video-taking without VR ain't easy!

Oh yeah.. I forgot about the VR. ;p

Oh, and remember to not record in portrait format...lol:bsmilie:
I ended up with couple videos that way..hee

BTW, I realised that the 50Hz fluorescent light at home is not very well liked by D90 video. I tried locking exposure and I can still see the banding. I thought only the fluorescent light with ballasts will give this problem.(Note that even the energy saving bulb is a ballast light source).

Anyone has a solution to this? Any recommendation on high frequency light?

I think if Nikon figured out how to AF during video mode...i'd be very happy oready ;p

(logically, if the sensor can AF during life-view, why can't it in video mode? :dunno:)

You can edit them back (with black border) to view on TV.:bsmilie:

MF can be trained. I hate AF when it tried to be smart...:)

I think I cam only minimised and not making perfect. With some lens, the MF and zoom has to turn more then 360deg, its impossible for me to do a smooth zoom/MF during video shooting...and not to "bounce" the cam...

haha, true :bsmilie:

I hate it too when the camera think's it's smarter than me when it isn't :p

Guess practice makes perfect

aha! get a one-touch lens! :D

I remembered shooting a church event using my consumer Panasonic DV camcorder. During some candle lit segment, the camera wasn't able to focus at all, keeps hunting on the candles. I had to switch to MF and focus on the candles myself.

Fireworks also, anything low light. Or smoky events. Best is to MF to infinity.

As a photographer, realistically speaking, I don't rely on AF 100% of the time. I'm not sure about videography but AF is no magic bullet for 100% accuracy and speed in focusing. All photographers know that.

Sure, sometimes we use MF on certain occasions, but the rest of the time, a camcorders AF is far superior for videos. No surprise. I'm pretty sure it's a no contest when it comes to Canon HF 11(consumer HD) vs. 5DMk2/D90.

(PS - For Canon HF I mean)Technically Sensor size (noise performance) may be a problem for low light. Btw, its a super zoom, wondering about the quality and then how is the performance of macro? What I am trying to say is the versatility of lens range.

And yah, D90 has its limitations, many indeed. But to me, I am paying $1300 (body) with this and I am grateful that I don't have to lug 2 cameras when I am going around.Really no complain from me, I am squeezing every cent I spent on it back to entertain me.:):bsmilie:

Wah lao, tried 30/1.4 on the D90 video at night, maciam like low-grade night vision like that. Its brighter than what our eyes can see! Pretty low noise too. Gonna be shiok shooting consumer fireworks in Indonesia during CNY (extremely dark), too bad my wide angle is 17mm f2.8.

Just shot a morning AD portion just now, running off for a ROM liao. I think the cam so far so good....the AF is great (actually its the same as D200 but I never mount the 30/1.4 on D200) and the 3" LCD is friggin crazy resolution wise, don't even have to zoom in to check AF (of course I use center point only LOL!). Battery life is really good, much better than D200. It seems much much more responsive than the D200. Hope the colours come out good on screen....but can tell only on Tuesday when I break. Till then...

well, i don't have a 1.4 but i do have a 1.8! Gotta try it out! ;p

and yea, batt life is waay superior to the D200  Could barely cover 1 event with a full batt on the D200. With the D90, didn't even bother bringing the charger during my 3-day holiday :bsmilie:

Use Portrait Picture control for nice skin tones. Standard is a bit too saturated for my liking.

really? I permanently set mine to vivid :sweatsm:

for portraiture, i'll push saturation down a notch
