sounds tempting... but it looks rather bulky leh. And I don't trust electronics for such simple things.
hmmmm US$26 for essentially a mercury switch...

hey anyone interested in a L-plate for arca-swiss clamp?
essentially it looks like this
lBracket-lg_1.jpg

am thinking of getting it locally fabricated, but wanna confirm interest level and rough pricing. Of course the more people get it, the cheaper it'll be (economy of scale).

benefits:
with L-plate, can mount camera in portrait orientation directly on top of ballhead, instead of having to drop the ball into the slot. This makes panoramas in portrait orientation much easier.
Will only do this with the arca-swiss mount, so have to be Sirui G10/20, Benro KB series, Markins, RRS, Arca-swiss, Kangrinpoche, etc.

Interested... But abt how much?

But spelling also fail leh... lolz NO "H" in Voigtlander, btw this brand hor used to be Made in Singapore one hor...

Haha. Sorry la. Legendary ma. So i don't know how to spell.

The thing is, even if you can get it machined would it be anodised and smooth coated? Or else hor, your Markins top plate will be full of scratches hor... Not that it won't be eventually... any ideas?

Stupid me! Walked passed TK without realising. Btw i jus went in n looked at T1004X. Feels quite light leh. Last leg quite sturdy to me. Haha. Now is G10 or G20 only. I didn't know tt G10 looks sooooo ........ cute

guys, if you buy the budget hotshoe spirit level, do take the extra precaution of applying some kind of sealing material (eg. epoxy) to the part where they drill open, top up the fluid, then plug back the hole. The last thing you want is this oily substance in your bag, and the "bubble" to completely fill up the spirit level.... :bsmilie:

oh thanks will take note of it.

of course anodised...! :) will be smooth to the touch, like a baby's bottom :D
Aluminium is pretty soft anyway. I seriously doubt it can damage a hardened ballhead clamp :)

Hmmm... I like baby's bottom!... (figure of speech, okay?)
Well, if you can give us a rough quote (ball park figure, plus minus a couple of bucks no prob). Haven't consider it coz most of the landscape pics will be in, well, landscape format, but some can sure use a portrait look. :D

Wah you going into photo business already har? Good initiative! :bsmilie:

no... because I'm being poisoned to get the L-plate, so I thought if can get it made cheaper locally, why not?
I guesstimate the price to be around S$50-60. The one in the picture I hotlinked is US$399 I think

edit: and sometimes you do need it in portrait orientation :)

Wah-jai! I've seen images of nice cloud formations, open fields in the distant background, and nice up close flower beds at the foreground (bottom of pic)! :D

Actually hor, the basic model (not the cross version) is about US$26 plus shipping... so really... cheep cheep...

The design reminded me of the light box for messaging the aliens in the Close Encounters of the Third Kind (oldie sci fi).....

wah seh..just did a search..agar agar $150 leh~ :o woohoo

You might wanna check the cheaper ones at the mass sales, I think I saw a set at Artworkfoto. Can't vouch for quality or the build, my suggestion is to go see if you can try it out at their shop (check their location at Mass Sales).

er... i think his is M1004X. he mentioned tt one of the legs can be detached.

My apologies, S series ist the one that's folded flat, not M series - I'm screwed too many series that I'm lost myself!

hey guys just a question, i took a couple of night portraits recently and i found out that the background was sharp while the subjects were very slightly blur.

i tried not to use my SB600 as it would produce a unnatural light at night so i used a tripod and set my iso to 400.

i figured it may be the auto focusing as i was using a remote ( portrait of me and family)

if i can recall my settings were afs-s and 3d colour matrix metering.

just to confirm its the focusing? cos certain shots were sharp throughout and certain shots were sharp in background blur in subject

where is your focus point at when you composed on a tripod, maybe people moved when you hit the remote button, and it focused on the background?

What you need to do is to compose, focus, then lock it down to MF. Then take the pictures.

What remote did you used? For the ML-L3 there's no AF, as compared to MC-DC2 where there is a half-press button.

You can half press using the camera's shutter release button, then set to IR remote, then use the ML-L3 to trigger.
