How do i check the number of Shutter Count on the D90 body...Which menu is it at as i can't find

This info is not available on camera body. You need to extract the info from the last photo taken by the camera through software.

You can't check using the camera. You can only do it using a computer

There are still pcs of these lying ard. If u need it just get it. Or else a 3rd brand such as Phottix should still be ok.

There shouldn't be any conflict

HI, I learnt that MD80 grip cannot charge 3rd party batteries. I'm also struggling whether to get the grip. Some says if you have heavy lens on D90 eg 70-200mm then it is a good balance. Some says there isn't any need to add additional weight unless you take a lot of portraits or need much longer battery life on the D90. Any advise on this as I do not want it to be a white elephant after getting it. Thanks~

If you don't mind the weight, I personally find that it actually helps to lessen my handshake.

If you know you're going to use it on your camera often, then it wouldn't be a white elephant. :)

IMO i got to a point wherein i realize that some composition is better to do portrait so i decided to have a grip. If i feel i dont need it then i remove it and put it inside cabi for a rest.

I dont feel comfty twisting my wrist to get a portrait shot.

Most old 3rd party batteries (very cheap ones) do not have a component within the battery, which the original MB-D80 cannot detect the battery when inserted. I do not know exactly what is the component, but I rem Hercules brand enel-3e should have this and should work with ur MB-D80. Anyone who knows what I'm talking abt please correct me.

Wikipedia covers Lithium-ion batteries quite thoroughly.
I can't be sure as well, but I believe most Li-ion batteries (including the EN-EL3e) have an electronic chip built-in, which specifies certain characteristics. This helps the camera monitor the battery status as well.
Without this info, I can only presume that the camera will reject/ignore this battery.

I've encounter on my ex-D90 where a 3rd party battery of mine cannot work in the original grip. Only to read abt why much later. Hence I advice getting the right 3rd party battery at least..

just curious bros, if a 3rd party battery wont work with the MB-D80 (i.e. cant find the electronic chip ZCA mentioned), will it still work when used on the camera (without the BG)? does the BG have special requirements for this chip?

i have one original and one 3rd party batt on my MB-D80 and both work fine, although sometimes when the 3rd party drains first, the BG cant detect the other (original) battery even though it's still full. so i just take out the drained batt and the original gets detected again. but no problems if the order is reversed (original drains first, 3rd party kicks in with no issue).

I was wondering abt the same thing. But I gave up and bought an original Nikon battery instead.

Hoho. I had that same problem as well. Gave up and simply downloaded Opanda instead. Makes life a heck of a lot easier ;p

Happy New Year!

I just bought the original grip for my D90.
I'm having problem with it bcoz sometimes in the middle of shooting the power was shutdown and the battery indicator blinking which means that the battery was exhausted(as per MBD80 manual) even if both batteries are full charge.

Do any one here have the same issue? what did you do to fix the problem?

Many thanks:)
