Hi lrvine, I make a mistake…sorry
Is to gnesgnoy.

I'm not sure about the front heavy part as I use my Sigma 150-500mm with D90 handheld all the time, and handling it it's ok leh.

Well, to some it may be a bit overbearing. I can handle Gripped-D90+TCIII+70-200 for prolonged periods of time, which I'd say is close to your setup. But in the beginning, it takes some time to get use to. Over time, one would get by with the combo.

Seriously, to a number of peeps who are already using 300/2.8 and above...

D90+70-200 is really, really nothing - just like Cichlid says. Just get your mind over the weighty issue (unless one is really malnourished, or still a kid), you will be shooting with it like crazy... Of course, end of the day, you'll still feel the toll on your back which can be easily compensated after a good night sleep.

Just to add, use a Black Rapid type strap and hook it up on the lens tripod collar, this will solve the front heavy problem.

Another add... if one really can't get accustomed to the front heaviness of the setup, I guess the final resort would be to go with a monopod attached the lens foot - but a bit wasted since you'll need to disable VR mode... might as well go for any of the 80-200mm alternatives (one with lens foot).

No problems with the setup, I kept my D90 for birding after I bought the D700. Just saw one Bigmos for sale at our BNS for only $850, go search quickly!

Kyaw kyaw, I use the 17-55 as walk about while in Sri Lanka. I hope you like this taken with the lens. No pp, only crop and change to bw ( a little over exposed because I adjusted to shoot people with darker skin tone)

it is a good lens. price would depend on whether you are getting a grey set or not. for a nikkor 17-55 f/2.8, the price can differ greatly.

Many thanks fat owl and the rest for all the responses. Sure it is a great place here for discussions and learnt a lot from here. Cheers!

Having experienced it during a shooting event, I have one major dislike about this lens (and this is nothing new) - it's the over-tightened zoom ring. Quite bothering if one needs to quickly frame a shot as you'll feel that something is trying to stop you doing your job smoothly. Other than that, it's a premium 2.8 zoom for the DX.
