any users of the below lens here?

Nikon AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED DX

Is this lens good or there's a comparable lens in terms of picture quality as well as price from tokina, tamron or sigma ?
this lens is nicknamed the "DX King".
Really solidly-built and very sharp.
Can find resolution test results on www.photozone.de

The (much) cheaper alternative is the Tamron 17-50/2.8
Sharp, and also fast (f/2.8).
Not so solid as the Nikkor, but for the price difference, makes for great bang-for-your-buck.

Sigma also makes 18-50/2.8 and now 17-50/2.8
Tokina makes 16-50/2.8 I think...
All pretty decent as well.

It is the best lens I had in my DX days. Definitely a keeper if it isn't for the fact that I'd gone full frame. I personally feel that it's focusing speed is far superior as compared to the other third-party equivalents.

it looks like DoF issues to me. You should shoot at f4 and f8 and compare the results.

pink tinge is White balance/colour cast issue.

morning guys~

picked up a copy of Sigma 50mm F1.4 ytd..

i did several test shots..and found that the IQ isnt that sharp..i.e in this photo, when i focus on my son's face, the photo ended up with other regions being sharp..:dunno:

please help to see if this is normal? :dunno:

working distance is abt..say 50-60cm? EXIF info is still available in the photo.

What do you mean by " cannot work"?

Hi Guys, a new d90 user here.

Like to find out something...
Does D90 display a timer showing how long has the shutter open when shooting night scene? (So that we will know how long is the shutter speed before we stop it.)

Cos I saw my friend's canon camera has a timer activated whenever he use the bulb mode to shoot night scene.

Thanks.

Mine has timer... It's called G-Shock ;)
Hahaha that is one glaring omission I'll have to admit. Not a deal-breaker, but still annoying nonetheless.

Haha thanks ZerocoolAstra and Pasay

I have been flipping thru the manual and surfing the website for answers to no avail.

Try to google for "timer remote cord for D90"
results return with brand like YONGNUO, FOTGA , etc.

Iphone will do if u got one. No need for extra purchases.

The Voigtlander Nokton 25 mm f/0.95 is a lens for m4/3, according to the website.
http://www.lenstip.com/276.1-Lens_review-Voigtlander_Nokton_25_mm_f_0.95.html

gives 50mm equiv FOV on an FX cam.
So this lens not applicable to D90, I suppose.

50mm on FX?
The m4/3 sensor is even larger than full frame 35mm sensor?

according to the lenstip website: "Its focal length allows it to give the same angle of view on the 4/3 Micro sensor as any classic 50 mm device on full frame."

means on the m4/3, the FOV is the same as a 50mm on Fx. so i guess it would be like 35mm focal length on DX like D90 (taking FX FOV as the basis as i dont know m4/3)

50mm on FX?
The m4/3 sensor is even larger than full frame 35mm sensor?
no... m4/3 sensor is smaller, hence the crop factor compared with FX sensor.

Eg if you had 3 cameras (m4/3, DX, FX) side-by-side, and a 50mm lens on the FX camera, to get the same field of view you'd need a 33.33mm lens on the DX camera (1.5x crop factor) and a 25mm lens on the m4/3 camera (2x crop factor).

hope that helps
