Hey guys.
I'm getting my first D90 this weekend as an early birthday present and it'll be my first DSLR. (:
Been looking into photography for a couple of months now, and I always thought that owning a DSLR would be a distant dream, but it's coming true now. :D

Really excited to be part of the D90 family, and I hope to learn more from you guys. (:

Congrats!!! Everyone will love the smell of a new camera coming out of the box!:bsmilie::bsmilie:

hihi welcome. :)

Welcome to CS. ^^

Yep, I've read everything about aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Memorized a few combinations when taking specific photos, too.

All I need to do now is to put it into play, and try out different combinations for myself, so I'll know what's best for different situations.

Played around with my friend's D3000 yesterday, and experimented with what I've learnt. I think it was fine, but I'll need to familiarize myself with my D90 first.

Can't wait. As you can see, I'm just jabbering on and on and on. XD
I'll get my dry cabinet today, and I'll go around Funan to find the best deal on Sunday. (:

perhaps you'd like to participate in THIS TCSS thread, where the topic of conversation is LOOSELY centred around the D90, but often digresses to a lot of rubbish ;)

This will help to keep this thread mainly centred around tips/tricks regarding the Nikon D90 camera.

morning guys~

picked up a copy of Sigma 50mm F1.4 ytd..

i did several test shots..and found that the IQ isnt that sharp..i.e in this photo, when i focus on my son's face, the photo ended up with other regions being sharp..:dunno:

please help to see if this is normal? :dunno:

working distance is abt..say 50-60cm? EXIF info is still available in the photo.

but for this photo..somehow the subject still looks pretty much in focus to me..zzz..

in this photo, a pinkish tint can be seen on the white text..can this be corrected by the agent too? :X

Did you use auto focus?
It could be AF mis-focus. D90 cannot do any AF fine-tuning. Must get agent to do some kind of calibration.

yeap..i used AF..maybe i should try out MF later..

think i shall bring back to them for calibration tomorrow..going melb this coming Sat! :sweatsm:

I see your lattern photo is very sharp. i don't think there is anything wrong with the lens.
For subjects who always moving erratically, like baby, try using dynamic area (AF area mode) couple with AF-C. One need to choosing the correct AF in response to different shooting conditions.

hey guys..i've just tested it on a lens focus chart..on AF/single point/f1.4

any front/back focus issue spotted here? :dunno:

Agreed. Looks all right. Could be subject oof due to moving away from focal plane.

Eyes look sharp enough. I think focus is all right :)

Pictures looked very soft imo, too soft. The Sigma 50mm f1.4 is reputed to be very sharp, sharper than the Nikons AFD/AFS. Perhaps you can sent it for checks/calibrations. I nearly bought this lens off the B&S 3 days ago but back out last moment....

it appears to be softer when taking from a distance less than 1m..however anything more than a metre appears to be sharp at 1.4 ..paiseh..i got sharper ones but with family members inside..hehe not convenient to post~ i'll probably monitor the situation for a couple of days more before i decide to bring it down for calibration :)
