could be different White Balance settings.
Hard to be certain.

don't jump to conclusion yet!

I set white balance auto. . gonna go nikon service centre later. .

when i put both D90 my own, and the one at my work place, taking over the same white back ground. . mine have some yellow things. . its not always at the same postion..

the D90 at my workplace one its sensor is pretty nice and its like the normal sensor u see. as for mine its yellowish. .O.O?

Its like the first image i took its on the top of my image, second on the middle , third bottom. . its across the whole imagine ( horizontally. . .)

WB = Auto
also can force a certain bias. That's why you can fine-tune from A3 - B3.

You will really bang b***s if you find out it's a setting problem.

Tried out the white balance forced already. .

matrix is for metering, 3D is for AF-point selection. as i've said, the camera can only focus on ONE focus plane. how thick or thin that focus plane is will determine how much is blurred. that's your DoF.

actually, you're already said it in your post. if background is some distance away, then even with a large DoF, it still isn't enough to cover that distance between subject and background, hence the blur. ;)

@ 105mm f/5.6, depth of field should be the thinnest for the kit lens.
If you're standing 2 or 3m from your subject, and the background is like 30-50m away, you should be able to achieve 'decent' subject isolation.

Certainly this effect (pls avoid the term 'bokeh effect'... it's very cliche and also incorrect) is very novel for PnS upgraders... :)

If you want even thinner DOF or smoother bokeh, unfortunately the only way is to cough up more money and get a fast tele prime

ah...
i am lost, and confuse. sorry. haha

Haha, no worries. Can try this little experiment: if u have a fast prime like 50 f1.8 or 1.4use it wide open, get 2 subjects (cups, sticks, etc) and place them at different distances from u. Then use AF-A, matrix metering and 3d tracking. See if u can focus on both subjects.

haha later i shall try on the bmw :p

Saw this post today about new firmware for d90 ..

Description :

updates to their distortion control data, improving the barrel and pincushion distortion correction capabilities that are available at capture time, and in playback mode. In full, the list of compatible lenses for distortion correction on these cameras with the distortion control data v1.002 update applied

woah new firmware! how do we go about updating it? bring to NSC or DIY? :dunno:

I think the update is too minor for me. Haha

Hi All, I have got my D90 for a couple of months and recently just realized this site, which provides a lot of information. Wanted to thanks all for the info and knowledge.
Not sure if it is appropriate to discuss here, what is the difference between 105mm telephoto and 105mm micro lens. Thinking of getting micro lens but will it function as a reasonable telephoto as well? Thank you in advance!

Hi and welcome.

I assume you're refering to the tele end of your kit lens (105mm)? Main difference is probably their function (zoom vs micro) and apertures (variable vs fixed). Micro and macro lenses are used to take close-ups of very tiny things e.g. insects, flowers, etc. Also, IIRC, their minimum focusing distance is different.

Knock knock~
any lady user here? Any outings? Had been holding on to my D90 since Jan but still a weak user :embrass:

Hi and welcome to CS and the D90 user group.
This thread is for d90 owners to introduce themselves and for some knowledge sharing on tips/tricks to using it.

There is/was a CS female photog grp.

My 1st outing with my new cam was the Beemer World @ MBS. Quite sad to see most of the pics are tilted slightly to the left. 1st time abit gan jiong, WB nv set nicely, shoot in jpeg instead of raw so cant edit anything much =(
The only photo that make my day is the outdoor shot of the financial district from MBS. Hopefully aft more tries i can get better with straight photos
