got my 18 - 200 at tk today. in short, it's really fast , rather sharp.

really feels like a good match with d90 also.

I got my D90 on the 21 sept. sold the kit lens @ 400 and got a used 18-200vr @ 700 on the 30 sept. Now I am very happy with the lens, great zoom and fast.

Tkboz you got 18 - 200 also? I'm sure you must have enjoyed the lens alot.

wow you sold it at a fantastic price! I only manage to sell it at $380. Hiaz.

what is a realistic price to for the 18-105 mm kit lens?

will i be able to ask for better price if i have the harvey norman 5 yrs extended warranty?

yes i think it should command a better price.

Really? It is meant to be a lightweight walkabout lens.

What do you expect from a 1-size-fit-all super 11x zoom lens? Of course the optics will not be stunning, but you pay the price for it's flexibility and reach. Like what tkbonz has said, he can shoot and not miss the moment. That's what 18-200 is for.
For casual shooters, 18-200 is a good choice. But if TS likes to shoot from far and wants sharp pics, go for 70-200 or 80-200 f2.8 or 70-300VR.

Totally agree. I have a 18-200 but for sharpness I settle only for the 17-55 F2.8. 18-200 is definitely not for events, and since you are trying to capture your children's moment, they move quite a lot and quite fast too. Hence a F2.8 is a requirement.

All comments, suggestions and advice noted with sincere thanks .... :)

I bought my 18-200mm from MS color on 22nd November. It broke down on Christmas Day when I was at the zoo, sob sob  It just stop autofocusing. I have to use manual focus in the end. I will bring it back to MS color tomorrow. Now I wonder whether I will get it before CNY. Anyone has the same problem, with autofocus??
It only lasted 1 month. I muz have got a lemon.

It is a sharp lens and focus is fast as well when it was working though.
