I believe you referring to the original 18-105mm kit lens not the 55-105. The kit 18-105 lens is one of the sharpest kit lens I've come across. No experience with the 18-55.. but from the 70mm range onwards, the 18-105 kit gets soft unless you stop down to f11..

Then just BO only from SLS or Funan. Proven that it's cheaper at normal shops, unless you really need those extra free gifts + being squeezed with lots of people. If I may imply that you have your own lens collection to just get BO and is thus a seasoned photographer, you don't really need those free gifts as enticement huh?
Here in Sydney the D90-18-105VR Kit is currently selling about $AUD1,625 whereas the D90 body only is about $AUD1385 and the 18-105VR lens is about $AUD400 on its own so at $AUD240 this lens is a giveaway, buy it even if you don't really need it!
Here in Sydney Nikon Aust is shipping the D90-18-105VR Kits in two separate boxes: camera and lens in their own retail box bound together with clear wrapping and the lens still only comes with plastic mount (and no weathershield like the AFS 18-70 lens), it is a big turn off, but if you are careful with your lens changing action it shouldn't be a problem. I just wonder it is possible to replace the plastic mount with a stainless steel one.

ya.. i intend to get BO if possible but all depends on pricing.. Anyone interested in the 18-105, i can let go at say 350? I think BnS lowest is 370.. just pm me if u interested
