oh, haha, how do u classify a "REAL" tripod?
roughly how much would that be?
and how to tell a good tripod from a not so good one?

A fairly average "REAL" tripod would cost you around $200 at least.
Some of the brands you can look for would be SLIK, Manfrotto, or Benro.
$200 - 300 should get you quite a decent one.
Ideally the tripod should be light, stable and be able to carry lots of weight. There are carbon fiber (expensive ++) legs which are light and aluminum (more affordable) legs with are heavier. You also have to buy a head to go with the legs.
Of course if money is no object get the Gitzo carbon fiber legs with an Arca Swiss ballhead. That would cost you about $800 plus for the legs and about another $800 for the head.;p
My advice is not to stinge when buying the tripod or else you need to spend extra money to get a better more stable one. Had to "waste" money on two tripods before settling for a Gitzo basalt tripod in the end.

PS - I would not advice on buying the Benro. My carbon fiber Benro fell apart in less than 6 months. My friend has a Benro too. He got so pissed with it that he bought a Gitzo in the end.
