Dear all, my friend and I planning to purchase D90 18-105mm kit. He went down to Harvey Norman @ West Mall today to check out the price, got offered a $1850 package that comes with 2x8gb SD card, tripod, camera bag, drybox, screen protector.

An alternate offer from her is $1750 with Extended Warranty($285 for 5 years), with 1x8gb, tripod, camera bag, screen protector. So it seem to us the $1850 package is rather good deal, since we can get it without the need of extended warrranty, and we get the drybox and extra 8gb sd.

Would like to hear comment/input regarding this package, your opinions will be highly appreciated! Or this can serve as a reference for you guys interested in getting D90 kit :D

if me i think i will got for the $1750 which comes with extended warranty..
well.. tts me... its still up to u cox u are the one buying.. :)

Not sure this will OT, but...

have u checked the prices of the D90 set in other places? since u are looking for the best prices, u should...

like MS color, John 3:16, Alan Photo, Orient Photo, etc.

Yaya, we checked out Alanphoto as well, quoted at $1650 with 4gb sd only. MSColour and Cathayphoto, offered at $1750 with 4gb sd. So it seems that the HN deal is rather attractive.

So the difference between Alan Photo's $1650 and HN West Mall's $1850 is:
- tripod
- 2 x 8gb vs 1 x 4gb SD card
- drybox
- camera bag
- screen protector

am i right?
I don't think these items are worth $200.

i rather go for warranty. :)

I bought the warranty when i bought my 400D before. now thinking back, I rather have not since you'd probably sell off your cam after 2-4 years and nobody would actually want to pay you more for the cam at that time.

woah... i personally think 1850 is a good deal, pay extra 200 (compared to AP, CP, etc) to get drybox etc, and if i'm not wrong, the drybox they are giving cost around 100? not too sure though, plus the extra tripod, camera bag, 8gb sd cards, all these shld cost more than $200?

Personally I will go for the extended warranty because it does carry some weight when it's time for your upgrade. IMHO.

If you read the fine print.. the extended warranty is "non-transferable" so end of the day.. when u sell a more than one year cam.. it will make no difference.

IMHO... get the $1750 because the 8GB + dry box is not worth 300+.

But the $1750 looks like a better deal leh..

8 GB card cost 30-40
tripod- brand? i suspect cheapo tripod that cost at the most 50 - not something i would use.
dry box...u can get it for $25-35
camera bag- lower pro abt $40 (for 1 lens and camera)
screen protector $5 dollar?
30+25+50+40+5 = 150?

I would go for the $1650. Use the money saved to buy a better tripod, bigger bag, and memory card is cheap. All can be bought at SimLim square. After 1 year/new replacement model, the camera body price will drop so much that nobody will pay extra for your "extended warranty" if you are selling.

Use the money saved from your extended warranty to discount the next buyer is more practical.

One thing to remember, Avoid all camera shops at simlim square except AlanPhoto and Oriental photo. Memory card can buy from bestbargain at level 5.

go HN @ funan look for vincent.
he can quote slightly lower with the freebies.

The drybox does not cost S$100, maybe a 30l dry cabinet would cost tht much only.

Just get it from those recommanded shops will do or AP.

suspect that tripod is that "Nikon" Tripod that was often given as Free Gift.
i know Alan Photo sls selling around $20 or $25.

i would go for extended warranty. but best if can check how does this extended warranty works.
if it is original Nikon warranty, then go for it. but if its warranty from HN itself, then have to think twice.

It appears that the $1750 comes with strings attached, i.e. having to purchase the extended warranty too.
The $1850 price excludes this requirement. Sneaky, aren't they?
[this is just what I gather from the TS' statement. Could have misinterpreted him]

The worst thing is that you end up with a tripod which you end up not using (I know. I went down that road), and a dry box which is too small for your expanding collection.

the Extented warranty is offerred by the HN shop itself, according to the salesperson, it is sort of "extension" of the manufacturer warranty, and HN will replace a camera of the same price for you if the camera is "beyaond repair".

What i read... correct me if i am wrong, is that the $1750 includes the 5 years warranty "An alternate offer from her is $1750 with Extended Warranty($285 for 5 years)". Unless my understanding is wrong.
