D800E User Thread

I went a completely different route; I built a Hackintosh: a generic PC that, with a few tweaks, can run OSX: The Always Up-to-Date Guide to Building a Hackintosh [OS X 10.8.2]

For less than $2500 I have:

- Asus P8Z77V-LX Motherboard
- i7 3770k running at 3.5GHz (that I could overclock)
- 32GB RAM
- GTX 650 ti 1GB video card that supports Cuda and Photoshop CS6 GPU acceleration
- 256 GB SSD boot drive
- 3TB hard drive
- DVD Writer
- Coolermaster case
- Dell U2711 27" 2560x1440 IPS, wide color gamut monitor

(If you haven't seen a wide gamut IPS monitor in action, it's a think of beauty, it makes ordinary LCDs look dull and color constrained.)

Sure, it takes some work to set up and configure, but it blows away the totally-tricked-out highest end iMacs in performance for about $2000 less.

A Hackintosh might no be everyone's ideal solution (it's not an out-of-the-box plug-n-play solution), but if you have even minor tech chops, it's a great value.

Oh yeah--it also triples boots: OS X (Mac), Windows 7 and Linux (Ubuntu 12.10).

Almost the same setup
However I used the Processor's video card, so I saved at the video card end
120GB SSD Boot
250GB SSD Temp Pic File
120GB SSD Cache for Photoshop

helps a bit scrolling through pictures in Lightroom...

Handheld on pillow, prone position plus high shutter speed ISO 3200 and above.

As I just relocated back to Sgp, I gave away from tripod to a friend abroad. Dont think it is due to mirror slap - i somehow find it lighter then my D300. After AF fine-tune, it is consistently sharp. I do not really think that the resolution takes a whole lot of "stringent" handholding skills as mentioned by lots of reviews.

Just worried that -20 adjustment is pretty drastic! I usually don't do AF fine-tune even for my D300 and that worked great!

Problem is my camera was just bought from B&H so servicing might be a problem at NSC....

If you can prove you we're living in the US at that time you should be able to get warranty service,

Does anyone know how to do the live view setting on the D800E?
I shoot at F/16 or above and whenever I switch to live view mode, it's completely dark.
Ya read the manual but nothing about shooting at this aperture.
TIA

As far as I know you can't change that behavior, the D800/E is always in DoF preview mode. The D600 behaves exactly the opposite I think.

thanks

Just to check. Has anyone have their af module mechanically realign or replace? Rather just adjust by software tt cause other af point(center & right) to be slightly out of focus to compensate for the left focusing issue?

I don't have a 800.
But why most users said that no point having this camera shooting (say portrait) at lower resolution?

anyone using D800E with the Tokina AF 10-17 f3.5-4.5 fisheye?

Tokina recently released the same lens but without the built-in hood. would like to find out about the performance of this lens first.

googled for samples but mainly are not related to D800E and some are underwater photography. seems to be a very popular lens with underwater photographers.

Nice Shot Bro,
Is it the Samyang 8mm Fisheye lens you're using?
Can you tell me more about this lens? Pros n Cons
TIA

Whirs

Thanks, yeap, I shot this on a Samyang 8mm. Well, I mainly use fisheye lenses for fun, so having to crop down to 15mp doesn't bother me much. I guess that's the only real downside to this lens - that you can only use it in DX crop mode to avoid vignetting. Oh, and it flares easily too.

Other than that, 8mm x 1.5 is 12mm, which is plenty wide enough for me. I personally like the Samyang fisheye's projection too.
