I'm trying to use the high speed shutter mode where the upgraded D7 takes a series of pictures at 5fps. The shutter clicks when I press the shutter release button. The LCD will blank out after a short while. Could anyone advise what is the time when the pictures are being taken ? Is it from the time I press the shutter release to the time the LCD blanks out or is does it start taking the frames when the screen blanks out. Thanks for your advice.

can anyone can help him ?

On a 7i, the shutter sound will rapid fire and the LCD keeps being updated. When the buffer ram runs out, (or you release the shutter button) the screen blanks for a while while it writes the images to CF.

The 7U will be a little different, it has a slower CPU, it may blank the screen while actually taking the pictures to save CPU cycles.

The test of course is to review the results.
