D7D built-in flash underexpose?

hey guys,

just conducted an experiment, and got a rather interesting findings.
my pictures turned out under-expose, when shoot with TAMRON SP24-135mm with built-in flash and D7D flash menu setting = "ADI FLASH".
but this does not occur when i use the other 2 lenses (shown below) or when use with external flash (minolta 3600HS) (under same setting)

interestingly, when i changed the D7D flash menu setting to "PRE_TTL FLASH", the exposure is alright.

hope this is not confusing...

1) D7D flash menu setting -> "ADI FLASH"; Built-in FLASH
-SP24-135: under-expose by >1stop
- Minolta 28-80mm(D) & 28-85mm (non-D): OK
2) D7D flash menu setting -> "PRE_TTL FLASH"; Built-in FLASH
-SP24-135: OK
- Minolta 28-80mm(D) & 28-85mm (non-D): OK
3) D7D flash menu setting -> "ADI FLASH"; Program flash 3600HS
-SP24-135: OK
- Minolta 28-80mm(D) & 28-85mm (non-D): OK
4) D7D flash menu setting -> "PRE_TTL FLASH"; Program flash 3600HS
-SP24-135: OK
- Minolta 28-80mm(D) & 28-85mm (non-D): OK

in summary, it became under-expose when i use TAMRON SP24-135mm, with built-in flash and D7D flash menu set to ADI_FLASH.
this does not happen when use the other 2 lenses tested, use external flash, or change D7D menu flash setting to PRE_TTL FLASH.

the object is about 1m away, and i use f/5.6, shutter 1/60s, focal length of 80mm (35mm equiv).
note the experiment conditions are the same throughout for the 4 trials.

is it just me? :sweat: :sweat:
 

the 24-135 is a non-D lens, how can ADI work?

ADI Flash Metering
Konica Minolta's ADI(Advanced Distance Integration) flash metering works in combination with the DYNAX 7, D lenses, Program Flash 5600HS(D) and Program Flash 3600HS(D), as well as the built-in flash. When used with these flash units, the camera calculates a guide number to control TTL flash metering. This guide number is calculated according to distance from subject, ambient light and pre-flash reflectivity of the subject and the background. It allows the ADI Flash Metering System to offer optimum flash metering regardless of the background conditions or subject's reflectance characteristics.

Yeah, ADI is suppose to work only with D lens or other lens which supports the D function, if not it will not work properly...

hmm, but i tried the same setting with Minolta 28-85mm, a non-D lens as well. the exposure was good too. hmm, this make me even more confused. :embrass:

and when the same setting with external flash, everything seems ok lei.
 

is the subject distance the same for both test using different lens? just curious.

yup, same distance, it's about 1m from the camera.
hmm, was thinking does it only happen to 3rd party non-D lens?
will try out other lenses tonight...

anyone encountered that before?
maybe i should bring to km service center and check it out!
