D7100 User thread

How's the IQ?
Any comments for this lens particularly with D7100?

hmm...

imho..

Pros: sharp. Way better than my previous copy of Nikkor 24-70. The noise control is excellent pairing with the D7100
Cons: alittle tight on a DX, slight vignetting @ wide open

you have to know what you are trying to achieve with this lens on a crop sensor other than that, you will love it.

I like good sharpness.
I almost get this lens last evening when I was at TK, they are selling 1420 now.
But they told me also this lens for DX camera is a bit tight.....
and my wife was there also......

I think I will get this lens but need to go alone....haha

Maybe I'm consider a tele user. I like to take with the object cover the frame.
But I think I need to change my style a bit to use wider lens.... but still not a wide lens haha

Just to bump up this thread to keep it alive. Here's a nice video for newbies looking for good lenses to go with their D7100 (or D5200).

I have opted to get the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 "C" version, which I like so far over the other kit lenses.

Anyone looking to get a really good screen protector for your D7100, check this one out. Just got mine and it's really nice.

GGS 3rd Generation LCD Screen Protector Glass for Nikon D7100:

Very nice and professional packaging:

Easy to apply and equally easy to remove, just clip it on:

One minor issue is that it will partially cover the buttons' white letter markings on the left of the screen.

Note: I have no relation to the seller, nor do I stand to make any monetary gain from posting this. Just want to share.

Thanks for sharing this.
I'm actually thinking of getting a Samsung notes 2 screen protector and cut to the shape of D7100 screen size.
But now another option for me.

Glad you find this useful. Saves you a lot of trouble indeed.

I forgot to mention that the optical viewfinder has protection too. All round protection for just usd 10.30, free shipping. I received mine within 2 weeks.

Is this an oil spot issue? Just discovered it by accident. Its at the same spot of most images be it landscape or portrait. Urgghhhhh. What would most of you do?

What aperture that you used for this photo?
The dust spot will become more obvious when you set to F22 and shot at flat white surface.
As for my case, the dust spot was really a "very big" spot that I would noticed it at F5.6 on white surface.

I got in total 4 spots. Shot on white background at f16. I wonder if it was like that new or it happened when I change lens.

Anyway how much is it to service. Anyone knows?

Sent my camera to Nikon service centre for cleaning. Now got promotion or thats what they said. First time sensor cleaning is free. Subsequently is $27.90 inclusive of GST. For this amount, I can live with it. Just pay and I can sleep soundly at night.

Sent it in and went for lunch. When I came back, it was all done. Good job Nikon!

i would suggest Larmor by GGS, comes with protector for top panel.

the last time i used this for my D7000, the glass crack and scratched my screen. :(

I tried converting and editing photos in RAW format to JPEG format using the ViewNX2 from Nikon.
However it prompts a message saying that the RAW format is not support.

Any one encounter this before or advice on this?

My D4 rear bottom LCD also cracked and got minor scuffs from this protector. Quite sian to see lines on the LCD.

If you have edited the NEF in NX, made changes to any of the settings. ViewNX cannot convert the NEF into JPEG.

You have to either run a Batch conversion from CaptureNX, or you open the NEF and manually save as JPEG.

Previously Nikon Viewer has no issues converting edited NEFs, only ViewNX *grumbles*

I have tried converting the files without any editing or change in settings. it gives the same error message.
However i am able to convert from NEF to JPEG for photos taken with D90.
