How can i use flash to obtain focus ? Can d7000 fire pre-flashes or something ?
Thanks

As bro zerocool mention. Its one of the way, the other way is to set it to night portrait effect n flash to rear curtain, u'll get the pre flashes n final flash before the shutter closes.

If you mount a Nikon speedlight (SB600 and above) and use center focus point, the flash can emit a grid pattern from the AF illuminator on the flash. It is less irritating than the camera's AF illuminator. It helps with accurate AF too :)

Ask u guys using the grips, do u fix the grip permanently or its a use then fix method. Just asking some opinions cos i want to fix the tripod plate permanently but cant decide wether to put on grip or cam itself. Thxs for the views..

I use grip most of the time. The only time I took it off is when I wanna swap batteries (after charging one of them). The tripod plate stays on the grip from day one.

mine stays on all the time when i shoot also.. unless need to access the internal batt den will remove..

mine too stays on most of the time, (think i'm too used to it liao) tried shooting without grip, feels funny ~>~

Ok, thxs for the feedback. One thing i forgot to add, when grip is perm fix, u put ur battery in ur grip or still use the batt compartment? If use batt compartment, that means u still hv to remove the grip right? Unless we can charge the batt from the compartment, can we?

I'm using the grip compartment, seldom use the camera battery compartment

unless u using 2 batt if not you can jus use the grip's compartment..

But in night portrait mode, or when using rear curtain sync, I don't think the pre-flashes are for AF purposes :dunno:

I thought all AF matters should had been settled before you press the trigger in any situation.... The pre flashes are either for flash metering in TTL mode, or FC sync isn't it?

Yeah, actually not sure too but somehow the pre-flashes must mean something...

I think so oo bro. The AF shld finish when the flashes red lights, i think the pre flashes shld be for metering purposes...hv to read up more on this n try more practice....
