D7000 users (Part 4)

How much did you pay for your Tokina 11-16mm F2.8?

I bought it at Cathay Photo @ $930 with UV Filter (Some not so branded ones, as i am unable to convince them to lower the price further).

I bought the MK1, as D7000 have focus motor, and usually most of the time i uses MF for landscape photog.
MK2 is selling at $1000, have some coatings, but i stick to the safer choice, MK1 which is really proven to be a good lens.

I see.
85mm f1.8g? Can pair up with your existing 28mm, 50mm and it looks like you can switch to FF if there is a need to anytime :bsmilie:

Considering about the 85mm f1.8G nia.
Yeap can also be used for FF in the future. Good to have FX lens to set aside for FF

LOL

I used to think after i master DX body and photo techniques to a decent level i will move to FX.

However, after sometime i am pretty happy with DX, although FX have it's own advantage, but most importantly it is heavier, and more expensive in compensate to the better DR and IQ.
I am quite happy with my new Samsung NX200 and Panasonic GF3, both are interchangeable lens, not tact sharp, but decent enough to take nice pictures.

Ouch! Just realized something: if u did on-camera editing, do it on your jpgs and not nef! My raw file was overwritten with a jpeg just because I did editing on camera...

Is there a setting to prevent this that I did not realize exist anyone?

I thought when you do in-camera editing, the camera will just produce a new jpg file with the raw unaffected? Hmm I don't use the function much but it seems like what happens for me.

I thought that too. But it replaced my nef with the jpg, n the nef couldn't b found on the card. I haven't checked my 2nd card (for jpgs n videos) though...

When I do in camera editing, it usually just saves a jpg copy of the edited raw, never encountered your problem of overwrite raw b4...maybe you should go NSC to check

hmmm... out of warranty already, and I hardly use in-camera editing.
But let me try it again, and see if it happens again.

Not something that bugs me, since I can just choose to edit the jpg on the 2nd card.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

I never have such problems as well, i am using Lightroom3.
Do a backup if you are worried before photo editing :)

eh... we are talking about in-camera editing? Not software side... kekeke....

Refer: D7000 manual, page 258. Is this what you are referring to?

Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't go thru so much of the manual. =p

I was testing it out last night. Surprisingly, it does not overwrite the raw file now.
I actually tried a few diff methods to edit the raw file, and none of them overwritten anything.
I also went thru the same editing steps I did when it happened but the problem didn't recur.
It created a new jpg on card 2 instead.

I guess it's a one time haywire thingy. Maybe at that time the camera was busy processing some other stuff?
I've also checked card 2, the raw file was most definitely overwritten, and can not be found anywhere else.

Y do I say this? Last night's test proved that when you edit a file, the jpg is written to disk(card) with the next number sequence.

When my 'error' occurred, a new jpg was not created, and it overwrote my nef file. The number sequence was 1305, 6, 7, 8, 9 etc and I edited 1307 after all these were shot. The jpg created was 1307.jpg, taking the mem slot in card 1 (where raw files should be). In normal cases, it should have created 1310.jpg and saved it in card 2.

This problem doesn't bug me. Just sharing my findings here, in case anyone meets with the same scenario.

Well, all's well that ends well. "one off" things do happen.

hi all, i am a new D7000 user :)

Welcome to the D7K group. Despite all the glamour on the FX....D7K is still an excellent camera. Like they say the man behind the camera..... Obviously I have seen lousy shots from people with very exp camera and also seen good shots from lower cost camera...(even from the days that I shoot films). Learn to use your equipment well. This is me...may not apply to you. I read the whole manual, try every setting on the menu, Yes, everything! You will find out that we are normally using only a small part of the functions. Remember those functions/features that you find useful and just be in the know of other built in possibilities. Upgrade only when you really need to and not on impulse. People are so conscience of what model, brand that they carry.....no end to the story. Meanwhile enjoy your toy....
I use to do HDR on camera...(simple but effective to my liking).
