Hey guys,

just wonder if u guys choose RAW or RAW+JPG when u take the pictures. I tried RAW+JPG but the JPG pictures shown on ViewNX2 look slightly different compared to the RAAW (NEF) format picture. JPG pictures tend to be slightly darker.

I tried using ViewNX2 to convert from NEF to JPG with highest quality and it is still the same, just the filesize larger than the D7K converted JPG.

Any expert can teach me or enlighten me on this? I am a newbie in Nikon.

Thanks. :)

Hi
Nikon sent back my body, just did a little adjustment on focusing.
But I found the problem is still there.
Call them again this morning. they suggest me to bring D7k to them
but I lost my patient. finally, they said they will collect it tomorrow.
So, I suggest you check the focusing, I found it is soft comparing with D70 and D90.
I used 50, 1.4D that has a big aperture so you may find the physical focusing plane shifted.
So I have given up the hot pixel, but I will fight with them for the focusing issue.
That is critical for a camera!

And I met other two guy in NSC, who also suffer from focusing issue.

U tried out with other lens?
50mm f1.4 used to be soft at 1.4 wide open right?

Mine working fine with all my Nikon lens. But not my tamron.
My tamron 17-50 f2.8 used to be sharp at f4 on my d90. But now I got to use af fine tune to get the same sharpness on my d7k.
and my tokina UWA f2.8 seem to be sharper then usual on d7k comparing to d90.
But as long as I can still get the sharp image out of it, I am ok. :D

hi ziggurat,
how u tested and found ur focusing problem?
i have problem trying to focus somethings sometimes, especially at night. Not very used to Nikon's focusing mode. I m using the AFS-S on Nikkor 24-120, f4.

Thanks.

Hi Ziggurat,

much better if you can post on how you test the focusing so we can check on our side also.

thanks

Bro, check with u, where did u find out about HV $1999 price for d7000 kit? Thank u.

It is a good news that you got hot pixel free d7k from second batch, mind to share your serial number?

Btw, just to share, Harvey Norman start releasing their price for kit package, 1999 including gst.

And for current d7k owners who like to shoot LE. Few way to avoid hot pixel:
1) do not use liveview/video prior to LE shoot.
2) split the interval longer between shooting.

I found that liveview will heat up the sensor very fast. Or override the liveview to iso800 manually. My LE is quite clear from obvious bright hot pixel by following the above steps.

Pentax k5 users started to complaint about the same issue. Maybe the sensor that commonly used by k5 and d7k tends to heat up too easily. But according to some owners who own both, k5 seem like having better control over the issue.

Personally, maybe Nikon can just release firmware to fix still photos issue quite easily. Not for video though. I Nv really try out video yet. So I dunno how bad it is.

Hi Guys.
I have test three lenses, that are 50mm1.4, 35mm F2 and 17-55 F2.8
all images show the same problems
You may check the images which show the focal point viewed by NX 2.26
http://picasaweb.google.com/johnyang969/NikonD7000FocusingIssue#

Maybe I am too critical, but I did see the focal plane shift on all these lenses.
Anyway, I have request them to check the camera again.
By the way, I just came back from Sitex in Expo. Also I went to Nikon group.
I tried the demo D7K, and found no hot pixel. So they are smart. I talk with salesmen and ask about hot pixels issue. they said only first batch suffer this issue and this is the second batch. Also they admit one to one exchange once hot pixels appear.
Oh, so I dont believe him. Frankly, I was told the same thing when I was buying in iPhoto.
Anyway, I am still fighting with Nikon with the focusing issue. Can you guy just review the images and give me some suggestion, pls.
Wish all the best to you. And do not buy D7K now, that is my suggestion.

Best way to test AF is to stick a thumb-sized black tape on your wall, and shoot from about 3 meters away.

it is a second shipment rather then a second batch.
my second exchange body is from the same shipment as SITEX.

btw, you tried limiting the LV/movie iso?
seem like my hot pixel issue is temporally resolved.
but still appear if i continuously shoot a few LE photo.
