D700

I heard a rumor that nikon will release D800 within this year.

the D700 is already a very solid camera, and at a pretty good price. If a D800 were to come out (rumors say August), price would probably be quite high.

If it comes out this year, that is. Fx cams are traditionally manufactured in the Nikon Sendai factory in Miyagi prefecture. And we all know what happened to that region.

a "highly radioactive" D800?
Btw, dun think within this year, nikon will be releasing their new FX camera with the current situation now.

Want to buy really cheap and don't care about warranty? BHPhotovideo.com and get a grey market version. But for me the warranty is enough to get me to buy in SG.

just get a D700 for RM5980 at KL,
convert to SGD around 2500.
price same with second hand selling at BnS?:bsmilie:

Hmm. At this price, is it a local Msia set with Nikon warranty or a grey set?

someone told me SLS is selling D700 for 2700sgd?

5990rm = 2500sgd ... extra 200 more, isn't it safer to buy in sg?

Grey set + GST? Can they even do that?

If it's grey set with fixed price then just show a reverse calculated GST I'll still believe...

2700 in SLS? hmmm.... maybe you can go there and buy. Then come back and tell us.

Why not? Many SLS shops are not known to be run by good law abiding citizens.

Wait go there, the box doesn't come with battery or charger. Then if don't buy the Vitacon for $500, then D700 suddenly no stock.

Sometimes I seriously wonder what shops can charge GST. I thought you must first register before you can charge and there a 1mil sales annually criteria? Are they even taxed when they parallel import? If not, ethically they shouldn't be charging GST.

I know I'm speaking like an innocent not knowing how business works. It just bothers me sometimes if any shop can simply charge anyone GST, and for any goods they sell.

It is simple, just look at the receipt, it is required by law to state company registration and gst registration number.

Most companies dealing with camera equipment will need to gst registered because value of equipment is vert high. You don't have to sell too much to hit 1 million per year in sales revenue.

I've banned SLS shops for very long time...except the Oriental Camera Shop at the highest floor.
I rather travel to Malaysia and buy.

It's not only SGD80 cheaper.
If you get it from Malaysia, it will be SGD500-600 cheaper.
If you get it from Thailand or HK, it will be much much cheaper.

Thailand is more expensive than AUST.... Yup a lot ;)

And btw, you can still register to charge gst even if your sales is below 1 mil. Most import export companies do it, as it is the only way to offset gst paid to distributors or customs.

And yes, parallel or no parallel. All imports are subject to gst at customs. No way to avoid it.

Hi,
I am thinking of getting d700 in mee-too (L2-48, Plaza Angsana, Johor Bahru). I googled and found some people had problem with fake Nikon battery problem. Is it advisable to get it from mee-too? The thing is it is 500-600 cheaper than Singapore. That's alot of money. If not comfortable replying in public, please pm me.

Thanks.

Hope you heard of the news that camera equipment in Malaysia has risen by around 15%. So better call and check pricing before going over.
