D700 new user - need guidance

Under what situations should I use ADL? I read that it's best not to use this feature?

I don't particularly like to use Active D Lighting as I can achieve similar results in post-processing on the PC. With or without seems to make no diff to me. Using flash, however, can make a significant difference to how my photo ends up.
Note that I said 'difference' and not 'improvement', as incorrect use of flash can make the photo look worse ;p

I am thinking of upgrading from D90 to either D700 or A77, any recommendation? I shoot mainly potraits.

I doubt one is significantly better than the other for portraits :)
Which one feels better to use? Only you can answer that.

Go test them out and see what you think :)

Anybody have this experience ?
Sometime when you insert new charged battery to D700, it only show one bar at battery meter, but after reload the battery again, it is OK. The usage and performance was not affected.

It happened to me a few times and yes, reloading solve the problem. It does not bother me enough to check with NSC or fellow forumers. Does anyone know why and how to resolve it?

Camera itself.

Could b the contact on either batt or camera.

Happens frequently on the mb10 though, dun read much abt it on the camera body. Prob can try w another batt n see if the problem persists?

Cheers!

I will take note of the battery when the problem happens again. It could be that particular battery's problem. Thank you.

Seems like the "spring effect" of the electrical contacts on the camera are a bit weak.
I stuck a bit of paper on the inside surface of the battery door, and all seems ok now :)
