Similar experience here for sensor cleaning. I found a stubborn dust that no matter how I blow, it just don't go away. So instead of cleaning it myself using some wet cleaning solution that I can obtain from CP, I decided just spend the time go down to NSC and get it over with. 20 mins after it's sent in for repair, I went back to collect it. I testing it for general usage but not exactly too strict with the inspection because it's quite hard to detect any new dust introduced from the LCD screen, neither am I able to see properly on the sensor without good lighting.

Trusted NSC work, went out for phototaking immediately. After I'm back home, downloaded the images and there I observe on 100% crop, more dusts then ever at the corners of the sensor. Sucks man..... might as well clean myself. Darn it.

Luckily those dust are not stubborn enough, can easily just a blower and remove them.

Can't really trust those fellows there. I have decided to clean the sensor myself instead. Why waste the time to go there.

Take it easy lar. .Look at the flip side, dust thingy is nothing new. At least, they managed to clear your stubborn dust in the first pl. ..:sweatsm:

Are those dust newly induced after you have left the service center? I am sure Nikon can't guaranteed that the sensor will be immuned to dust after sensor cleaning. Most user know that there is no way to keep dust from entering the camera ( camera isn't air tight... base on one of the technical guys there ), hence they provide sensor cleaning services. I think by saying "can't really trust those fellows there" sounds quite hash as they probably did their job but there are certain things which are beyond their control.

Of cos, if those dust are the same ones after you got the cleaning done... then yeah, poor services.

Sorry for OTing. :embrass:

mod: I am not sure why u merge my thread with a 3 week old thread. I THINK it is to save space. so I have deleted the old thread and post a new one so I only have ONE thread. reason is that this post is more about the service standard in NSC rather than hot pixels so the original subject title is not longer valid.

Since I am relatively idle in December, decided to send my D700 in to fix my single hot pixel at ISO1600. The pixel is not that irritating but I thought just map it away, no harm done right? WRONG.

Sent it in December 04. They took a grand total of 2 weeks plus to do the pixel map. Received the sms today and picked it up.

Drove all the way to fuji xerox towers in the afternoon. Took 30 seconds to check to see my hot pixel is removed. Below is what I see.....

Here is the an ISO6400 pic before I send it in.

Here is an ISO1600 pic I took today.

below are the center crops

After ISO1600

Please note that the before crop is taken at ISO6400 while the after crop is taken at ISO1600.

I am just speechless. Really speechless.

The tech told me he just ran the defrag program and program says no error. I mean in the whole two weeks he had the camera, he cannot spend like 30 seconds to check if the hot pixels is actually removed?

I am not just shocked at the incompetence but also the total lack of care and due diligence.

Usually, when I have a bad experience with service center, I don't post on public forum immediately as my camera is still with them. Sometimes, as they say, it is an honest mistake and lets move on.

But this one is really mind boggling. I mean I send in my D700 to map out a hot pixel and they return my camera with SEVEN hot pixels.

The tech still ask me to wait 3 weeks for replacement sensor. Seriously, I think it is a software fix, not hardware fix. Nikon Japan as probably mapped out those 6 hot pixels and somehow nikon Singapore managed to unmap them....

In the end, the service manager promised to fix it before christmas by changing hardware, so lets see how it goes.

The whole point of the story,

nikon singapore does not has the technical competence to do a proper pixel map. If u can live with your hot pixel, just live with it.

PS: I deleted some portions of my posts as my camera is still with them.... so I try to be as polite as possible already....

my deepest condolences to your D700!! but what shocking me is abt nikon professional services! you are throwing in 3.5k for pro body like D700, and this is shitty service u got there? don tell me all nikon technician eat s*** to grow up?

it is sad to hear, in fact this is second time i hear from my friend, about poor nikon services. nikon body is tough, a piece of workhorse, but the service quality in service center sg getting from bad to worst!

next time i don play DSLR liao, all move back to film and range finder, less servicing issue.
