d700 and D3s replacement

My experience with AFC using contrast detection is that there is a lot of misfocus when tracking moving objects.

Mainly because contrast detection cannot tell whether the object is further or closer than the point of focus. They need to shift the focus back and forth a little. Do you guys mean that the AFC in live view of current nikon DSLRs can track a moving object like running kid? If the AFC cannot track moving objects.... I don't see the point. Might as well use AFS.

I hope that the live view can use the CAM 3500 which has served me very well.

hmmm....nucleared powered camera

Great!!! You would not run out of power. Imagine your camera can even power your car.
But cautions that you will need a very good cooling system, you cant heavily shake your camera and you can't bring them near any flooded area. Else there will be a melt down.

Any guess to e replacements' pricings?

no. they won't. they want to try and cash in on the christmas period.

Wandering if all of us can consolidate the purchase once it is launch. Hope to get a discount. 

I am just hoping they put the D3s sensor into the D700 replacement. I will be happy already.
I just hope someone buy me one of each & I will be happy already............................................:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Anyone wish to donate to "Cowseye wants to buy his D4" fund? hahaha :p

Btw, I just rented a D3s, taking advantage of the special offer at camra rental biz. The ISO of D3s @ 6400 really puts my D300s @ 800 to shame :(

If D700 performs similar, than for sure I'll get it's replacement. Assuming the DX mode gives the crop factor while using only 66% of the megapixel, and the rumor that it's gonna use the 24 megapixel sony sensor is also true, wouldn't that delivers a picture bigger than the current D700 in FX mode?

Resolution perhaps. but it would be 1.5x the FOV.

Exactly what I would need in birding and macro :P

Other than cropping, im not sure about going bigger megapixels helps. need bigger storage space, faster computer for pp. i am used to the days where 6mp is more than adequate for daily use. it will be nice to give the option for say choose 12mp (like the old 5d) raw output using full sensor size for better high iso performance

If u had tried doing micro stock photography, you will understand why. After cropping, every megapixel counts.

It's also been rumored that the newer bodies and models would be Made in Malaysia..

sure, like i said other than cropping (in fact heavy cropping is more accurate statement), there is no real advantage for daily use. what about users that want pure high iso performance? i would gladly give up the mp for good iso. i dont recall reading any complaints that 12mp is too little for cropping

Yah, but I'm not very sure if it's purely give and take option. And if the rumor is true, that also means that the D4, with lower mp than the D800, will fit what you want at 2 times the price. I don't think u would want to give up so much dough for that(plus a bunch of other features) if it's for daily use right?

hmm, lets just hope the rumor is untrue, a d800 with d3s sensor at half the price of d4 will be sweet. lets hope nikon dont put that sensor to waste by passing it down to lower end body
