Wait long long. :bsmilie: Earliest spring 2004 and its still in development. Try June maybe
Yah probably not sooner than June 2004...maybe even later...seeing Nikon's recent trend of delaying the sales of their new products....most notably the D2H... :bsmilie:

Sigh... guess I'll never own a DSLR :( nvm... be contented ;)

I do hope to see the D70 released soon though. At least it's black in colour and somewhat similar to the build of the D100. Hmm wonder if it comes with grip that has shutter release?.

I hope the new DX lens is compatible with D1** series.

I guess the battery grip will come with a shutter release. Nikon should not be so stupid to commit the same mistake again and again!
D70 looks ugly (IMO), but slightly better than F75, the grip is longer. Anyway, it is a welcome.

You referring to the F80 + MB16? :) The D100 did come with the grip, but I find that it should have been built in instead of sold seperately.. but considering how the grip would have costed the body additional $400, I don't know if it's a wise move or not.

:dunno: I thought you already have one?!? ;)

There is no reason why the new DX kit lens will not be compatible. Unlike the EF-S kit lens.

Hmm, if its cheap (< $200) and gives at least 28mm wide, it could be a good addition as a travel lens.

I don't think there will be much of a delay for the D70.

The D2H was a new technology for Nikon with a New AF module and New LBCAST sensor, and hence I am sure they will want to spend more time perfecting flaws.

As for the D70, if it is by and large using D100's components, then there isn't much R&D so to speak, using D100's SONY CCD and the same CAM-900 AF module.

So since the components are tested by the D100 already, the D70 should not need much testing for launch, unless the delay was due to parts availability.

If the D70 is utilising a large number of D100 parts, then I believe come Spring 2004, a lot of D100 will "disappear" or "out of stock" as their parts are all used to manufacture the D70.

That happened to the 10D when the 300D was launched. To keep up with 300D's demand, the 10D was out of stock for weeks maybe a month, before it slowly crept back to the shelves.

I hope the kit lens is sold seperately, preferrably made with AF-S, VR, IF, ED

Wonder what will be the kit lens that comes with the D70, will Nikon go down a similar strategy like EF-S?

Definitely there will be ED, the question is... how many pieces? VR and AF-S are not likely, it will make the kit too expensive, and cross-market with 17-55 F2.8.

My guess is 18-55 F3.5-5.6 IF ED.

EF-S is just another "temporary" solution of Canon to it's 1.6X multiplier factor. The approach is different from Nikon's but the ultimate motives are the same.

To me EF-S is a flop from Canon to make it compatible only with 300D (they have to do it that way though, to make 300D kit cheap and not hurting the feeling of 17-40L lens owner who paid so much more). And I think there will be only 1 EF-S lens!

thoa_rs: Nope, Nikon will not be making any AF-S-S lenses I think, they are quite market and have set standards on themselves, that's why you don't see the D2H or any DSLR planned to have any other crop factor than 1.5x :)

weihui: Yeah, go easy on me ;) Just wishful thinking only. AF-S + IF-ED would be good enough. I DON'T mind a 18-55 f/4 constant. :) heehee.. f/3.5-f/5.6 is good too :) Since it's a DX lens, I presume it would be bundled as kit lens and sold seperately too :)

Any idea if D70 gonna replace D100 or just to compete with 300D? Would it be a better dslr than D100?

D70 is Nikon's answer to Canon's 300D

I just hope for it to be out soon, it's nice to see Nikon pumping some excitement after the release of the D2H.

The D100 has been out, nearly 2 years, and still going strong. I think it will be another 1-2 years time before the D200 overtakes D100? Maybe with JFET/LBCAST + CAM1900? ;p

I only hope that future cams come with grips ? So don't need to purchase seperately. And oh yeah, Wi-Fi too ;)

:vhappy:

Spring 2004 ? :what:

FYI, some leak specs/info on the D70.... :)
>>>follow dpreview disscussion here<<<

- Aluminium body (forget the Canon 300D) <aluminium frame, plastic body>
- Color-matrix (same as F5)
- Color flash (same as D2H)
- 3 fps for 9 shots
- 6.3 MP
- Good comfort and feel (for my hand anyway)
- Vertical grip unfortunately not an option
- Same battery (and life) as the D100

sounds good isn't it? esp if it is true... ;p
