The D70 is impressive  , but can anyone PM me what better lens to go along with for higher zooms maybe up to 200mm? 3rd party lens will do too... but i am still darn new. Pls guide me... Thanks! :embrass:

Welcome to the D70 club :)

For good telezooms, you can consider a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 (2-touch) that costs around $1600 new and $950-1100 second-hand (approximate price). If you can spend more, then the 70-200 VR f/2.8 is an excellent lens to have. New is around $3150 in Singapore (lower elsewhere, PM me if interested ;) ).

There are other cheaper 3rd party alternatives, check out Sigma's 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro Super II (around $350 I think). Do a search as its been discussed a lot before.

Cheers

70-200 2.8 Sigma...

reviews are better than L lenses and are cheaper

i hv also just got a AFD nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 just before i got the d70 from CP for 1660. I already had a nikkor micro 60mm f/2.8 and together with the d70 kit lens, i guess i am quite well covered at least to the higher end of the medium telephoto to about an effective of 300mm considering the 1.5x factor. I hv also got a sb800. Heard that the cheaper sb600 has inferior quality.
Now thinking of getting a teleconverter 1.4x or 1.7x plus a solid/light Carbon fibre tripod. With all these, the d70 based system should be more or less complete.
Anyone could advice a CF tripod and roughly how much does one cost?
My goodness, this is really an expensive hobby

oh yea.... it is sure an expensive one alright! :)
But guess i will save some $$$ first for a zoom lens if not I have nothing left for this hobby :)

A good tripod is the Gitzo carbon fiber tripod available at CP. Price about $600 upwards. You would need to find a ball head for it though. It is an expensive hobby.
BTW, if you are into printing, then a good laptop (like Apple Powerbook) and printer (like Canon 9950) would set you back again!
Price to pay for photography.... :) :)

Luckily I hv already had a PowerBook running on jaguar. I dont fancy a printer though. Looks like one would need to cut bank acc by about 10k for a reasonable set of digital system.

thanks for the tripod recommendation...roughly how heavy is it?

btw, how could we check for the latest firmware version in the camera?
dont think it is the latest.
May need to send in to nikon to update.

You can update the firmware yourself :)
Quite easy... Just download it from nikon.com.sg

to recoup some$ and also for personal satisfaction [when u see yr own pics published somewhere] and improvement, maybe should play the stock market.

Any one knows any good stock agencies locally?
;)

D70 quality gauranteed, if not money back, provided your techniques are good enough.

Stock market, no gaurantee. Everyone is a smart investor and it's a zero sum game, so who's the loser? You and me. The big boys are the winner.
