D70 new firmware released!

FInally was able to update the firmware. phewww!!!

I realised what actually happened ... when i copied the *.bin file into my CF card a folder, named Firmware, was automatically created and the *.bin file was placed in this folder.

No wonder I couldnt update ... urggghhh! :mad2: :mad2:

I guess, may be, others whom wanted to ask you to check if the files are in the ROOT directory, have hesitated....scare they'll be accused of doubting your English comprehension.

At least I am.

just a quick one, I discovered the number of available shots has increased from 47 to 88? file format RAW on 512MB.

Does that mean the new RAW file has smaller size? :dunno:

Did the update improve the focussing?

Tried my cheapo Nikon 70-300, that always hunt alot at 300mm even in daylight, its able to focus slightly faster, even under low light condition.

Is it true or is it just me?

I also felt so too. Compared it with my friend's "haven't upgraded" D70, he also felt that it is able to focus faster.
Think it has something to do with "Performance of the 5-area AF system has been improved (Dynamic area and Closest subjct AF-area modes)."

haha ... sorry abt that. but who would expect that a folder will be automatically created when u copied the *.bin file into the CF card? obviously i didn't & i didn't bother to check my CF card before inserting it into my cam. i dunno why the folder was auto created ...

i do hope the AF is better (it wasn't actually great before). that's the main reason i upgraded the firmware.

personally i don't like the look of the new menus as much as the old ones...

updating was fast and no issue arises. The AF is confirmed faster than previous version.

I can't gauge how fast it is, but on my 17-55mm , the focus is faster ; i would give it 1.5 to 2x faster. never felt so good before !!

the colour was very nice on the menu. Viewing pictures seem to be faster.

Overall it is a good job well done !!!

not sure the focus was faster or not...(got time then test out again)
But at least the counter works...(no need to estimate the number of shots left)

the menu looks nearer, but too "black" for my taste.

However, I found one little issue that I am currently facing:

I am using Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 EX lens during a company swimming event.

There are a few ocassions where I tried to check on the f-stop and shutter speed setting by half pressing it, and it is just not working!

Nothing shown on the viewfinder regarding f-stop, shutter speed, etc., nor can I have an exposure.

I am not sure if anyone else have this problem after the upgrading?

It was intermittent, however, it was a rather annoying experience, especially when it comes to a sport event, where action is utmost important.

That should not happen, I guess the NSC might have accidentally done something on your camera while you send it for CCD cleaning. Bring it down and let them check again.

How about Nikon lenses? Only your Sigma affected? Very fast to drive conclusions that NSC broke the D70 if that's the case.

I experienced such problems before on my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 as well as my nikon 17-35mm :what:

Simply dimount the lense and remount it can liao. Always remember to swich off the camera before doing any mounting.
