Hi to all....

Thanks for the feedback...so can I safelyy say that despite all the oil adn dust, there is no impact to the IQ?

So what is your general approach to this issue, live with it? or let the camera accumulate as much oil and dust, then send to Nikon Service center to have it service? I also read somewhere that as the shutter count increases, the amount of oil and dust will reduce.

Any truth in this ?

Not sure but I just recently got mine and after 4k shots my recent test shot looks free of dust and oil. Maybe the situation got better alr?

My recent set is down to the 2K mark, went birding with it yesterday at f/8-11. So far so good.

Wow...this is good news...maybe the later batches are free from oil and dust? If this is the case, I can rest assure in getting a set....anymore such testimony?

BTW, I have been reading online that there is potentially a D600s coming out soon.......any truth in this ?

First 4 digits of your serial? I think local stores are selling 804... Still undecided between picking one up here or in Japan this or next week.

Does it make a difference? If so...can hawthorne907 and lenslust kindly share with all potential D600 buyers? Thanks

Why shouldn't it make a difference when the camera got assembled?

F8, f11 still not enough to see lah, people are saying f16 onwards... Thts why some dnt mind as much and still get the cam as 99% of the time they never get over f5.. Its up to u..

Personally experience, f8 n u can c the dusts if any...

Go the the nsc for cleanin.

My advise is for body, get it locally as there's local warranty.lenses hv international warranty,so not a prob

I am a D600 user, and my advise is this: If you foresee yourself doing lots of outdoor landscapes with frequent changing of lenses at the field, skip this model.

If you are doing events and portraits mainly, this will likely be a non issue. I am at 25k SC now and I do lots of these. Not been an issue at all for the last 3 months, and thus no visits to NSC for the past few months too.

Know what you love doing, how you gonna utilize the camera the most before buying. Do not buy and regret and say "what if I had bought the xxxx". This is a very very capable camera for what I enjoy and loves doing. I may be buying a second one soon due to some changing needs :)

I am proud that my D600 got dust and oil issue. Why?

because my camera gave me a reason to use Lightroom or Photoshop.

Otherwise because of its awesome image quality, no need to use those softwares!

Period/full stop. (stop trowing cans at me)

Nice nikoneer, taking the prob.in a positive way. Photographers should be like you, making way out of the prob.not complain about it. Cheers.

This I have no idea, I still belong to the group of 'buy first, shoot first, anything else, talk later'.

As for D600s, if it comes, good, if not, wait for D500. Wait till I wear down my D600 shutter first. <2 weeks old already 2K, not shooting enough.

Should be 803+. Can't really remember.

As above, but can't quite remember.

I check via M-Lup. Sensor's clean. No chance to even take out my swabs and clean it. Cleaned my D4 once but haven't done it since.

I shoot wildlife + events + portraits + misc.

I tested the D600 and D4 side by side last week, would say it performs as per what a S$2,600 camera would (should) do. No regrets getting it. AF in total darkness was a whine, but it still manages to lock on with a Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8G in about 0.5s or so. The AF-assist on the SB910/900 tends to activate more than when it's AF-ing on my D4. Shutter lag reminds me of the D100 days, but the ever ready response of the shutter firing & AF lock-on with the half-press to full press still never fails to let me down.

Flash sync (auto-fp @ 1/200s) works good for me on the D600, I don't have issues with the limited 1/200s auto-fp for events. Running with 6 AAs in the grip (Phottix) provides me with long lasting fire power through events. 800+ shots on 2 SD cards and still going strong. At ISO5,000-6,400 artifacts do creep in but I'd say it's still manageable and acceptable (for an uncle like me who've been through ISO800 on a D1/2X/2H).

It's a wonderful camera if you ask me - given it's price and features. Even with a buffer of 16 (RAW), I didn't manage to fill it firing continuously at events/wildlife.

That said, maybe my expectations are low, or maybe old fogey like me tends to compare with yesteryear's technologies (Kodak/Canon D30/D1/D100 etc...) such that I find the D600 is an amazing beast on it's own, given it's feature.

If you ask me how it compares with the D4? I'd say D4 is at 4 times the price of a D600, but it outdoes the D600 in many areas such that the D600 is like a toy. Nothing worth comparing, except to note that the D600 is worth every penny at the current price being a FX of 24mp.

D600 with dust? Huh... sorry... cannot really be bothered/worried... (IMHO). I'm too busy enjoying the camera & it's capabilities.

When Nikon launches any new model the first batch usually go to USA, then Europe and follow by Asia last. Singapore is a small country our market cannot compare with them. So they are the one that will be the testing ground and any quality issue they will be the first to report it. The same goes for Canon when they first launch the EOS5D MK III the first batch have technical issue after that they fixed it. This is very common. I bought Nikon D600 last month so far I don't have ay issue at all. I am very satisfied and proud to own it. I guess mine was the later shipment.

Hi Bro, I am really hoping that all the later batches have had this oil/ dust problem resolve before I jump on the band wagon and get one myself....

May I know what is your shutter count now and did you try shoting at more than f8 to see if the problem pops up?

Also mind sharing your serial number?

Thanks

Hi I bought my D600 in first week of march from store in funan. Serial 803****. Noticed many oil spots on the sensor after 200 shots. I've sent it in for servicing via the shop. Called the Nikon svc centre yesterday which said yes they changed the shutter and ready for collection.
