D600 User Thread II

>Just got the 18-35mm 3.5-4.5g and took it out for a spin. Bokeh is left wanting, but I guess that's what the primes are for.

Well many constant aperture f2.8 zoomz ard..and Sigma coming out with f1.8 zoomz..:)

Sigma is really doing well in refining their lenses. Constant f1.8 zoom. First in the world, but why for crop sensor only?! T.T

Saying back, I'm still pretty interested in the extra stop of shuttle speed. Couldn't get them.. .. ..

pretty quiet here, thought i'd share a few images that i took while on a trip to japan earlier this year...

As far as I rem, all were shot with D600 and 16-35f4
please feel free to share yours with the rest of d600 users as well :)

ops, just realised the images are not as sharp as it should be, as photobucket did some auto-resizing...

was somebody looking for samples of d600 and tamron 24-70?

i added the vignetting but colours are pretty nice.

i would recommend using it with grip if you go for this set up. it's hefty.

generally sharp, but the VC takes time to "warm up" but works once it kicks in.

(still not as sharp as primes though)

my sharpest lens that I own, the 85 1.8G, wide open
(colours processed to taste, with texture, and a basic sharpen in ACR)
(i have the 28 1.8G, 50 1.8G, 85 1.8G, 180 2.8 D as well as the tamron 24-70)

and a close up:

let me know if anybody wants to see sample pics from any of the lenses that I have.

I highly recommend the 28 1.8G and 85 1.8G, good match for the body

Hi Kwanhan,
how long you need to wait for the VC to warm up?
Does it depends on surrounding temperature?

Hi sorry for any misunderstanding!

I did not mean it literally needs to warm up, more that it needs time to activate and settle, how long I am not able to quantify, but long enough to be noticeable as compared to the top tier Nikon VR systems.

Not sluggish but not instantaneous either

For me I have realized it could mean missing important split second shots at fast paced events.

But I'm a hobbyist who sometimes shoots as 2nd photog at weddings, so not as critical.

Hope I'm not making it sound worse than it really is

Can I say that it will work fine when we half press the shuttle button to focus lock it then full press to shot it?

Yes tat shud work. But when u half press and the VC kicks in, it takes a while before VC stabilizes the shake

By design that shouldn't be the case or at least that doesn't sound right. I think it's common with any IS system (lens and body) that it takes a while to settle after you switched on the camera but not every time you half press the shutter.

Many hobby photographers sold this 24-70 and some even say other lens are sharper.. don't understand. This IQ not good enough ?
Good glasses very important.. IMO

Yes, Vibration Reduction is activated when the operator half depress the shutter button and the VR or VC takes a wee bit of time (1/2 to 2sec or so) to settle.

If the shot is taken when the VR / VC is trying to settle, the image will have induced camera shake.

This has been tested and verified.

Is it works the same for Nikon lens or it's only happens on Tamron?

That doesn't sound right to me. If that's the case the implementation is flawed.

Precisely. VR and VC should be settled asap for the final shot to be sharp and not with handshake blur

I don't remember having to wait for the VR to settle for my lens. Most VR lenses should allow u to shoot instantaneously when u lift the camera to your eyes, especially when you found a critical moment. If need to wait, moment is gone already....

That said, the VR on my lens just failed me while on a trip. Although I use my lenses heavily, but that's something for anyone buying a VR lens to take into consideration, I.e repair cost. Not sure how much NSC gonna charge me this time. Fingers crossed....
