Wow, that's an early one. Shutter replacement?

Yeap. I usually shoot with big apeature and I didn't notice until shot landscape back in feb. Holy. Lol. Not very serious though but a replacement would be better.
I was waiting for the result of you guys and finally decided to put it in.

Hi Guys...

Found this off the web....but not sure how true it is....any one care to comment?

I waited about 6 weeks since I last called Nikon when I was told they were aware of the dust/oil issue in the D600 and waiting to hear from Nikon Tokyo. So today, I called back to ask for an update.

The gentleman I spoke with was very polite and helpful and gave me some good information once again (I believe it was the same person I spoke with the first time).

These are the points he made which may be useful for other people experiencing the same issue or think of buying a new D600:

Nikon Tokyo have a solution in the works which will involve fitting new parts into the camera to solve the issue
The fix will be coming 'soon' but I was told I should still send my camera in to be cleaned in the meantime for a quick turnaround of just several days
They are not oil spots we are seeing but lubricant/debris coming off the mirror box
The interim cleaning will involve not just the sensor but also the source of the lubricant
Nikon are paying for the postage by sending me out a barcode to put on the box so I can send it in for the cleaning
A high proportion of d600's are experiencing this problem
I think the major point here is that Nikon Tokyo have a solution involving the removal and fitting of new parts but this solution is not yet implemented and that the repair centre is waiting each day for an update on this (what I was told).

Thankfully, this means something is being done even if Nikon are not being vocal about it (big mistake in customer relations which I expressed my concern about).

I suggested that I could return the camera to the shop for a new one (not as easy for me as it sounds [long story to do with strange shop policies] but asked if the new one is likely to have the same problem and I was told that it was quite likely it would (so the socalled 'minority of users 'with the problem can't be that small then as I often see said on this forum).

I have seen numerous people ask whether they should wait to get the d600. Based on what I heard today, I'd say wait until this new part is implemented.

For anyone who wants to tell me 'not another oil thread' which I saw on my first 'update' on the matter 6 weeks ago, please realise that Nikon themselves have told me that this is an actual problem not just 'normal' dust. Also, many people will find this useful I believe, hence why I wish to share this information. I haven't seen anywhere else on the net confirmation that a new part is going to be fitted as a solution.

Hopefully progress is being made. I think people need to keep the pressure on though for this is be finalised sooner rather than later.

They keep telling people the same story for months. Whatever a service center is telling you, you'll never know if it's true or just an attempt to keep good customer relations. I vote for the latter one, don't forget the camera is already on sale for 7 months.

Whether or not a this solution has been implemented and that the new batch of camera no longer have this issue......

I thought we came already to a conclusion? There are cameras with issues and without issues but you can't tell them apart from the outside.

Only Nikon can provide such a statement, any statement from any non Nikon official(s) cannot be taken for the gospel truth.

Here's a 100% crop from the upper left corner of my D600.

Have you changed the shutter box as many have done?

Use a Gitzo blower if you gonna DIY blow cleaning. The smaller blowers won't work, I have already retired mine....:bsmilie:

Not yet, this camera is less than 2 months old. So far I had it cleaned myself (sensor swab) and then at NSC.

I'm pretty astounded that my D600 with less than 5k on the shutter behaves so differently than my D80 which has more than 200k on the shutter and has never been to NSC for its entire life. :bsmilie:

BTW the only lens I have is a 24-200 AF-D, I'm already tired of changing lenses on m D80/18-70/55-200 combo so the D600 gets an all-rounder lens.

Mine looked exactly like yours at 600 clicks.

I suggest you send it back to Nikon Service Centre. They will change the shutter mechanism for you.

Much better after that but not entirely clear.

That's only one camera. I'm pretty sure many cameras have that, if not most but I think not all. Well, I know that doesn't help. Still pretty risky to buy...

I'm even too lazy to zoom and check for dust on my set.

Even more sure cos I'll be lazier to send it in for 'fix'.

Just leave it be until one day I realise it's very bad. Anyway 1 year's warranty, abuse the shutter first, then go change a new one. Haha.

Make the best out of the worst scenario.

When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.
