D600, D800 prices

Bought D600 yesterday at Artworkfoto. Good service, friendly guys, and the price was $2,099 body only. At this price i am willing to take a year of risk and pay for my own cleaning.

Don't know how much cleaning costs - assuming $25-$50 and at the rate i use it, no more than 3 per year

That's actually the double edge in the US. Their return policies are very generous, some 30 days, some even 90 days. Sounds like a good deal - don't like it, return it during the return period. But hey, that means that unit will be sold to another user. And you're like, paying "new" price for a not really new set.

What kind of proof do you need?

Of course the returned set will be sold again. What's the arrangement, I'm not sure - repackage them again or refurbrish or what, that's either their internal arrangement or arrangement with Nikon USA. If not they destroy the set or sell as 2nd hand and make huge losses?

Read one member here written 200plus shot one cleaning. Until 3000plus then Alright. Properly you need to clean at least 10 times. How much is one cleaning?
Correct me if I am wrong. I also thinking of getting one.

Set up tripod, whack 3000 shots, send for cleaning one time, and you're golden.

Understand from a retailer that he was made to take in a significant no. of D600 and is now stuck with them. D600 is not selling as well as he anticipated.

Good idea, but not going to do it for me. Bought one in Dec, about 500 shots now. Think I'll whack i to 3000-4000 shots and once I return after my March holiday trip (which will involve lots of lens changing under cold temperature), sent it for a good cleaning :bsmilie:

Bro recommend you clean already then go for trip. At least your first 1-2 days shot don't need cloning of dust. After come back send in again. That's what I did.

Actually so far the dusts doesn't appear on my photos. I typically shoot at f/9 range with strobes, hardly on f/11 and almost never on f/16. I did a dust check on f/22 against white wall, there's a few specks at the corners though, but not appearing on my usual f/9 and below range

But let's say if I hit 3000 before the trip.. I'll just send it in if I have the time.. pray that they settle it fast. Sucks that they don't even do half day for Saturday.

Its illegal in the US to sell a used piece as new. No major retailer will risk that. These returned goods are usually sold as seconds or refurbished goods at a cheaper price. I've bought two such cameras from B&H with a 40-50% discount, but they were clearly marked as demo or refurbished pieces & didnt come with the gold box.

Even salvaging the parts for reuse in production line or future repair sounds like a better plan than destroy...

Maybe not losses.. just less profits.

It's seriously not that hard to clean a sensor.

Well, having lived in western countries for the greater part of my younger years, I come to realizxe why it will not work in Asia.

It is more of a honor system over there, will it work over here? Many folks will treat it like a cheap rental service.

I would agree. I'm sure that there's many many cheapos out there who will just abuse this system.

Or those itchy hands who doesn't know what they are buying, buy already don't like or feels that it sucks (maybe when it's they who sucked) and then return the goods during the return period.
