How many people here haven't considered switching to Canon at some point? These little annoyances are the things that push people to the other side.

;-)

Bro in case you are not aware, all brands are the same. It's because our government did not make camera equipment tax free like other countries.

If you do go JB Plaza Angsana, go ask around the camera shops for all the brands camera pricings. All are much cheaper than Singapore and that's because the govt of Malaysia made camera equipment tax free couple years back.

I came from Canon and I can tell you I once bought a lens at 20% cheaper than Singapore price with 1+2 years warranty. Sadly the warranty only valid in Malaysia. With Nikon now, I can buy lens at 10-15% cheaper across the causeway and enjoy full warranty from NSC. That's something I really like.

If the friendly neighborhood stores pricing piss you off, you can always take a look at Technogadgets from mass sales. So far 0 complains in the past 2 years they been in operations. Pricing is quite similar to US.

Nikon lenses purchased from authorized dealers enjoy international warranty.

artworkfoto is having a promo $2099 body only

Large price drop for the D600 I bought it at $2675 in October 2012 to $2099.

Looks like the D600 is not moving thanks to the free oil/ dust issues and the need for a large discount.

Eh $2099 is grey set.

TK still selling at $25xx for warranty set.

Yes its grey set and D600 is one model you might not want to buy without warranty.

IMHO

Given it's ~$400 cheaper. I don't see why not. Even I'm tempted but to each their own.

Just bought 1 D600 from ShangHai, 10900RMB=2200SGD with 1 Years global warranty, don know why singapore is so expensive, still selling at 2600SGD? what a joke price...As i know, china got 17% GST, tat is much higher than 7% in Singapore..actually singapore should be cheaper.

I think it's more of feeling the heat from canon 6d.lol.

I believe nikon body should be covered by a local warranty... not international.

But still 2200 is a good buy.

Actually it is moving very well. The price drop seems like a global one, a mad rush to solidify market share. And a very aggressive move to hit the 6D at its birth.

China's 17% is not GST. It is called VAT (增值税), where it is taxed once on import (on cost price). And the actual percentage is not fixed at 17%, it also depends on which industry or products, many enjoy special policy so it might not even be 17%.

GST is fundamentally a different kind of tax, where it applies to services and the end selling price of all goods. ANd if you are in retail line before, you will know selling price is usually more than 100% of cost of goods sold (average selling price is 3 times that of COGS), because you need to factor in overheads and other costs.

So which is higher? GST or VAT? you can do the math.

Seeing how there are so many returns of the D600 earlier on in western countries, I will avoid buying grey sets. You never know if the grey sets are refurbished units.

Global warranty....works for sg NSC?

There is no such thing as global warranty for camera bodies. For camera bodies bought in China, it only covers all of greater China, HK and Macau. That's all.

My rationale for buying the D600 through official dealers is that I get NSC to do the sensor cleanings if needed and, if Nikon ever offers a fix / trade / credit for the spotting problem, if I can take advantage of it if I have a local warranty.

But so far I've been lucky... no spots after 600 frames.
