Hi, has anyone of you experienced your NP400 battery dying suddenly?

Bought the 3rd party Camera Devices batt slightly less than a year ago, last week it suddenly died on my during my Taiwan trip, was still fully charged when I was snapping a few shots in row when the camera stopped responding.

Tried charging it again but the batt charger doesn't register any connection (charging light doesn't come on)

Thinking whether it can be still used or i should throw it away.
:(

Happened to me before, first the charge getting lower and don't last as long, then suddenly die during one of the firework shoot, same blue colour Camera Devices Battery (East gear is the distributor), the battery has half year warranty, if you still have the receipt, you can ask for an exchange.

I also kena ........with the same brand of battery as zcf ........

if you want to save money, you can go sim lim tower and buy the dry cells for that kind and replace it yourself. needs a soldering iron to do that.

so if NP400 batteries do run out, it is still possible to diy.

Knowing you all you might want to try to install a higer capacity dry cell.

Curious....How you manage to open the casing without breaking it ? :dunno:

Just throw it away and buy a new one.

I had one battery from EG (earliest version) with bad connectivity. What happedn was the double sided tape holding the batteries snuggly deteriorated and then the two internal cells had space to juggle it self and this weakened the soldring points on one of the terminals. I resoldered the battery and it worked fine after that. ANyway this battery have found its way to the grave a few weeks back after serving abotu 3++yrs with me.

qx asked me the same question.:bsmilie: i just pry open from the sides. it's pure force as the main glue is the super strong double sided tape inside.

Guys, I use the "made in Japan" ones purchased from Alan Photo (actually other stores also sell) and they fantastic power life. about $30 each too

The EG batteries with the green sticker are ok... they last better than the original battery... it's the recent ones with the blue sticker that are no good it seems... anyway the original is only a few dollars more... just go to Sony to order some lor... I'm really thinking of getting another pair... just no time to get down to get it...

AH!! So coincidental ... my Blue Colour Camera Devices cd-np400 just died on me today..

same situation leh... The camera battery bar was still full when the camera suddenly stopped responding... turning the camera on and off din work.. and when charging the battery..the light doesnt come on...

hai hai... time to spend money again...

hmmz... how much is the original battery? I alwiz had the impression that the original one cost >$100.. so bought the 3rd party one...

Hey guys,

I didn't get a chance to ask about the NP-400 when I was down at SCC because the guys were busy. Will try again when I go down to collect my lenses.

by the way, can anyone enlighten us on the small "window" (infrared?) on the fwd surface (the side which goes into the camera first) of the original NP-400? I realized that the 3rd party ones do not have this "window".

Thanks for all the info.
My batt that died is the bluesticker camera devices, tried ripping it apart as suggested, really need brute force.
Not sure how to ascertain if it's the batt or the circuit board that died, prob will go down SSC to get a new batt.

Wonder whether there will still be available stock say 2 years down the road for d5d.
My cam still has to last me at least another 3yrs, and think the batts usually start degrading after 2-3 yrs?

if you want to DIY and have a soldering iron, you can just rip of the cell and bring to sim lim tower and show it to those people there and buy a few. i am not sure about this but to play safe, buy one with the same capacity (ie 1500 mAh) cos anything too high might upset the circuit board, or might not at all.

but if you dun want, just go sony and buy a few NP400, they can last pretty long. i have one NP400 which i used for my Dimage A1 and it has working been 2 years without any problems, unlike third party brands(some say third party brands are better, but for my case, both died on me).

Li-Ion Battery are not safe to be solder, the heat generate can cause the battery to Explode.

Just be careful when dealing with Li-Ion.
