D5100 user...fall in!!

Hi all!

My virgin post here hehe. I'm a beginner to the DSLR world and still waiting to get my hands on one. It's sort of a an upgrade from a compact to get better looking pics. I'm likely gonna settle for the D5100 so can't wait to join u guys!

Just wanna check wif the more experienced ones here on the coming Comex. Will I find a good deal there for the D5100? Or shld I go straight to funan now n buy fr one of the established ones like TK? (getting impatient haha!).

Also, is there a chance these shops will come out wif a new price package during Comex season, hence I shld wait till then?

Usually at comex, the selling price is at S$1199 coupled with a lot of freebies. However, you need to consider whether these freebies are useful to you or not. However, i won't consider these freebies are free as you actually paid S$1199 - S$995 (street price) = $200+ for it.

The freebies usually are tripod, bag, cleaning kit, extra memory card, memory card reader. I find the tripod is not stable and you will have a hard time selling it off if you get it. Pay a bit more to get a better tripod and you can use it for a long time. As for bag, I find the freebie bag is er.... i rather get a bag with better design. Memory cards are at very reasonable price, last pc show i got my Sandisk Extreme 8GB at S$40, this is one of the better and faster card in the market. Memory card reader can be purchased at less $20 at most computer stores.

As for what lens to get, try out your kit lens first before starting your buying spree, camera body is cheap, lens are not cheap, spend wisely. Seek for advise before spending.

BTW, for $995, you will still be able to get a tripod ( not very good one ) a SD card reader, cleaning kit and a small camera bag at most of the shops.

one advise...
dump the kit lens and get yourself a pc of good decent glass. Can consider 17-55f2.8 or just couple with prime like the popular 35f1.8G.

you'll see significantly improved in IQ

If you talking abt the nikon 35mmf1.8g.. i got it for $330 at orient photo.. for the 17-55 f2.8.. no idea.. if is the nikon 17-35mm very expensive around $3500 if not wrong...

I got the D5100 + AF-S 50 1.8G!

I am extremely happy with the output from the lens, Bokeh is very nice indeed, very smooth and non distracting. 35 1.8 has quite bad bokeh in many occacions but the new 50 is awesome for the price!

only thing i think not bad is only the dry cabinet.. the rest are quite cheap... street price also got 3mth extended warranty..

erm! dont think you really need to go for any workshop =x. all you need to do is shoot and learn shoot and learn.. most impt is to read your manual,.
