someone told me in the D7000 thread that you need to have a fully charged battery. ;)

Try this method instead.

1. Insert in the camera battery.
2. Set your camera to M mode.
3. Set shutter to bulb mode.
4. Unmount your lens
5. Press your trigger button and hold on it.
6. Your shutter should open now and your sensor is exposed.

It would be good if you have a remote release cable as you can trigger and lock-hold the trigger button.

Take note, if the dust is not so obvious, do not bother to clean it instead as you can get more dust particles onto your sensor as you try to clean it.

Thanks for the detailed guide :) I now got like at least 5 dust particle.. Is it better to clean or wait ?

think i got more dust than you.... if the dust is not affecting your image, then try not fix it...... there is one time i try to remove 2 - 3 dusts, end up i got more than 10 dust particles....

Is there a place, like camera shops, that helps to clean ur sensors?

NSC does it. But like the bros n sis here said, we've got to learn how to clean someday...

I just saw a YouTube video ytd teaching How to clean..they use a brush to wipe the mirror, won't thus scratch the mirror ?

The brush is no ordinary brush. It is called Artic butterfly or something, the item is quite expensive. Do not worry about the dust on your sensor, unless the dust is very big and eye sore.....

Just a question. Wouldnt the electro-static on the sensor (when the camera is on) attract more dust onto the sensor when it is exposed on bulb mode w/ lens unmounted?

Cheem cheem...

Now when I change lens, I point the camera body downwards, hoping that dust particles don't fall in.

Suppose to.... i not sure.

i thought its a normal brush..so i used nikon brush to brush the mirror ytd after watching the video :( hope no harm is done

Better spend that 20+ bucks to find NSC to clean it than risk damaging the sensor urself. (unless u gonna upgrade veryyy soon :bsmilie:)

No harm done if you brush the mirror. Cos the mirror only reflect what you see in the viewfinder. Mirror is the first barrier, after the mirror flips up, you still have the shutter blade protecting the sensor.

Try not to touch the sensor. If the dust is not obvious, just leave it there..... hahaha.....

Hi,

I don't know if this question has been asked before, but i was reading the manual and didn't find an answer to my question.

There are 11 auto focus point in the D5100, is it possible to switch to the ones that i want? like focus on the left one or top right one. is it possible?

I can't seem to find it in the user manual.

Any ideas? I'm new to this.

Switch to AF-S mode. It should be done in menu for your camera on the right hand panel in info panel.

Can be done.....

There are 3 types of focusing mode. I only remember the 1st one as i use it all the time, the 2nd one and 3rd one I not quite sure so i just anyhow name them first.

1. Single point focusing mode.
2. group focusing mode.
3. Wide area focusing mode.

Set your camera to Single point focusing mode first. Then half press your trigger button, you should see a single point light up in red in your view finder, then move the dial ( the round circular thingy where the centre is the ok button) on your camera, you should be able to see the red point moving around the 11 point.

See if i can find sometimes or not tonight, i will write in more detail.
