oh ok ok. tat mean any tamron or sigma lenses that have auto focus can be bought lor.. haha ok ok

This is NOT 100% correct!! I just found out that my D5100 can not work well with my old Tamron 18-270 :( Can not really auto focus properly.
I am waiting for the holiday to over, to go to Nikon / Tamrono service center.... :(

I hope any D5100 user can check and update here. Because I check user manual and never mentioned any additional setting. Just like usual nikon DSLR, press up during photo view mode then it will display. Mayb first batch firmware missed this feature? Or that shop.... fake set? :p

You need to select this feature through the menu, I have done that & it is working fine

My tip for other feature like miniture mode etc, try doing it after taking the shots & process on the body. That will be easier than doing it during the shooting.

e.g. Colour Sketch feature

Has anyone been able to find any shop selling this body-only? Been quoting around and it seems like it only comes in a body+kit combo at the moment. Guess I'll have to buy it with the kit lens now.

Unless Grey set, you may have a chance to find it, you can try DD electronics...., but what is the point since the kit set is slightly lower then $1K with local warranty ?

Thanks for the heads-up but yeah, don't think I want a grey set. Looking for a body-only coz I already have my lenses.

Welcome to the D5100 family :)

Sorry guys I have question to ask, as I'm very new to photography.

What kind of lens do I need to do a close up kind of shots on bugs on leaf? I think I'll be taking it from a distant away right? So I'll be needing a 70-200mm kind of lens?

You need, what is known as, a macro lens. Or a macro filter such as raynox to be placed in from of your current lens. Or an extension tube to be mount behind your current lens. There are still other ways to do as well. But my advice is to skip all the alternatives and get a dedicated macro lens.

can anyone tell how to get a HRD done in D5100? I don't seem to be able to do so :(

You need to first select Jpeg, not RAW then go to shooting menu and set HDR ON and it only good for one take.

You need to repeat the setting again for another even it is subsequence.

This is great! is there any photoshop adjustment other than the framing?

I try this effect but find the colors are very light or low contrast. May be it is because cloudy sky during the time I took the photo.

Anyone knows how to use the selective color?

Any outcome?

I encounter the same issue using the Tamron new 18-270 PZD when using live view for focusing but looks shape and taken shape if focus from viewfinder.

Other lenses including Tamron 28-70 on D5100 using live view focusing are as shape as it can be.

You might want to try that and share your finding.

lol compatible flash is good? any one can recommend a good and good zoom len?

I did not take this shot with color sketch as I said but process the shot in body using the color sketch mode which is much easier. You will able to make 2 adjustments during the in body processing & no other adjustment made other than the in body processing & framing/border.
For selective color, it is the same, if you process the after taking the normal shot then it will much more easier then trying to take the shot with the feature. Here is one of my test shot..,

Just assign the function button to use as HDR On shot, so you just need to press this button b4 each shot you want to have with this HDR function. You can select auto, 1, 2,3 EV , try the 3EV. This was taken using HDR ...

Of course HDR will be best when process with software & taking multiple shots with different exposures..
