The menus and buttons are different lah.
Kakis in kakis, some kakis even must drive the same cars, use the same handphones, wear the same sportshoes...

oh ok, that sort of kaki....cool man :bsmilie:

Like those syncronized swimming girls who all must wear and do the same thing.....:bsmilie:

A Nikon is a Nikon. You can exchange lens, lights, batteries, etc. between D50 and D70s so no need to just follow kaki bec kaki got more money so buy D70 right???:)

Only thing cannot exchange with kaki if kaki uses D70 and u use D50 are the flash cards. But then, how often do you exchange these?

I am thinking more of saving money to get lens, cos I know this is one item that has never-ending spending if not control properly. So, as a start, can use my kakis lens to learn.

As for SD & CF card, no problem cos my brother is using a FZ5, so can borrow SD card from him.

Hee hee..... seems like I'm a cheap-skits kind of fellow, borrow things here and there. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

But must advise u beforehand.
Camera kakis is slightly different than cars kakis and swimming girls kakis.
We usually can share memory cards, battery, tripods, etc, but not lenses

OK, noted. Must start to threat them well. Start buying them drinks etc.... ;)

You mean treat them hor? I dun think threatening them will help in the long run. hahaha jokingu onegaiishimasu... I also borrow lens from friends..it's a good start.

I also D50 user. The modes that you see being marketed is just Nikon gimmick. You don't see camera reviews placing any emphasis whatsoever on those modes do ya? But is a good camera although the price difference between d70s is pretty large, I would say that the technical functions that were removed don't really justify this difference..

Never look down on the camera, the photographer is the one controlling the camera.
Me using D50 so i would promote it. But D70 have a better grab cos its bigger.

Me have this feeling during my last few fashion shoot at wisma and bugis, i am the only one using D50, no extra flash only the inbuild flash with a plastic bag as diffuser. My shoots wont loose out to those with big camera and flash.

I am using a D70s...to me the deciding factor is the CF and the additional dial.:D

In my opinion, "child mode" is just a gimmick, cause you should be playing with "A", "S" or "M", rather than those build-in mode....:)

Welcome to the nikon club

Nikon or Canon
D50 or D70

I was shooting at st pedro on a WWII battleship today, while Clint Eastwood was fliming.

I have my work camera Canon 1DS markII and my own nikon D70s ... but I passed my canon to one of my model Lead ..... End of the day all my shots turn out sharps and nice and I was all done in two hrs ..... for him, he was alway out of memories...downloading to laptop as he was shooting at 16mp and half of his pic came out blur...he is carrying my tank( canon 1ds ) climbing up and down the battleship for 6hrs.
The only big different to me is when you look into the canon 1DS markII the big viewing frame, let you see you are shooting.

It is important to pick what you need for what you are shooting and where you are shooting. On field I go for something light(D70s) with a monopod(day).

In the studio I normally have two light kits setup for shooting the hollywood stars.
Here the canon 1ds mark II is the king as it's alway on the tripod and fire by the laptop ... low noise ... 16mp ... good for my AOV shots....diffuse and spec ...etc.(Main lighting setup).
After the first light kit shoot, the stars will move to My D70s second lighting setup for normal beauty shoot.

Not all expensive camera are better if you don't know when, where and how you going to use it.... and what lenses and accessaries to go with it.

My pick, the D70s (wire release and front dial for A mode, important to me) or D70 (best DSLR under US$3000)

But D50 is a great camera... use it right you can kick the big guys ass too.

Hi, I recently got a D50. Just as you, I was deciding between the D70s and D50. Went for the D50 instead and didn't look back.

There's only 1 reason why I got D50 instead of the D70s......

The $400 savings when compare a D50 kit set with a D70s kit set is enough savings for me to get a better lens or add-on lens.

Now if you have Nikon lens already, this will be different cos you might say compare D50 kit with D70s body only then the price is only $200 diff. But in actual fact, there is bec I had also an older Tamron (Nikon-mount) lens and at first thought it should do. Now, my Tamron is still fixed to my old Nikon SLR and I'm happily using the kit lens.

Economics aside, how about features?

As I said, above was the reason why I bought the D50. But why I'm happy with the D50 still?
1) fast AF (some say even faster than D70s??? but definitely faster than my older Nikon SLR)
2) Light weight. I handled the D50 and D70s. If body only, they weight about the same in your hands, but add battery, cards (D50 uses SD while D70s uses CF), etc. I liked the D50 better because slightly smaller.

The Child mode is merely a scene selection compirses of a selected setting where the colours are enhanced, etc. View it as you would other scenes such as Portrait, Night scenes, etc.

As for other settings or features in the D70s, I didn't miss it. What are those missing from D50:
* Grid lines - DUn use it so dun miss it
* Second dial button - I'm happy with just one dial.
* LCD backlight (This is the backlight on TOP of the cam and NOT the Review LCD screen). I get all my info via the EVF and back LCD so dun really use the Top LCD so much anyway. Also, like many others do, use a torchlight if shooting in so dark a place where you really need one anyway.

That's about it. SO dun really need to make a fuss about D50 or D70s, really not much diff. Yet for me, the savings from D50 can go a long way.

Agree with you, almost reason i got D50 not D70s, Now got second lens..50mm 1.4D,still cheap then..D70s. again LCD w/o backlight..do get troubles.. you will not able to get Whiteblanace from EVF...trouble for night shot.
