No.

300D, 350D and 400D are all in the same class.

300D, 350D, 400D should be on equivalent level with the D70, D70s and D80 if I'm not mistaken.

The 10D, 20D and 30D are on almost the same level as the D100 and D200, but the D200 is better than all of the three Canon equivalents in some respect.

how to compare when cannon run on cmos sensor while nikon run on ccd?

Gosh, we're talking about comparable in terms of most features such as pixel count, continuous shooting rate, price point, body material, screen size etc.

If we're going by your train of thought, might as well say Nikon has F-mount and Canon as EF-mount...

Does the sensor technology matter?
D40/D40X/D50/D70/D70s/D100/D200 is CCD, D2X(s) is CMOS, D2H(s) is LBCAST.

after reading dpreview i say it's the D80 for me (between these two choices)

I dunno, but the price of D200 has gone down alot now. Why not look at it instead?
Paying about $600 more for a D80 compared to D40 is a bit overkill for me.

But if you comfortable with it go ahead.

After reading all reviews I say it's the D40  for me.

What is a good cam (D40) only bag for me? One that cater for the 55-200 len when attached.

Whihc Lowepro model is good and weather proof?

Just a warning though.there is a problem wih the D40 I have to put up with-it doesn't have the Nikon Commander mode for flash (whatever it's called officially, I'm not too sure) Thus, if you buy a SB 600 its use is limited as you can't you is as a slave.

I actually use my old Canon camera bag for it (It fts the whole D40 WITH SB-400 ATTACHED!)

I took a look at the lowepro photorunner, it looks good. You can get it for around $60. However, I am not too sure about the speed which you can take out camera should you need to take a quick snapshot (i.e. you see an accident on the road and you're driving you car). The zip looks kinda tricky to me.

I think all Lowepro bags are weather proof.

Been using a Lowepro Nova2 AW for it. Enough to put in D40 body with lens, and 1 extra lens, with all the little extras eg spare batt, filters, SD cards, Lenspen and cleaning stuffs, lens hood, etc.

Tell me more about this Commander mode. I was actually planning to purchase the SB600.

Where can I find the best good collection of Lowepro bags? Prefer to touch and feel the bags before buying.

You can try going to John 3:16 or TK photos to have a look at the bags. Quite a good collection there.

thread started this thread so long le u decide which camera to buy le ma?

Ya lor, if budget isn't an issue, get the D80. Else, start with D40X for practice then upgrade later.

Actually, if u never handle any SLR b4, then I would suggest start with D40X as it's a simple machine to start with. D80 comes with many functions that u might need awhile to get familiar if u are new to SLRs.
