D40/40x/60 users, what lens do you own?

Using the kit lens in combi with the 55-200 VR. But I'm seriously considering the Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM

I use mostly Nikkor 18-200mm VR mostly... even as an walkabout lens... it's very versatile with a little compromise on weight (but you probably hear from the pros that the lens is nothing compared to other more heavier lens, plus you have a D40/D60 which considered to be the lightest of the DSLR group)

Sigma 30mm f1.4 for night and indoors for portraits and "snap as you see it"

and finally Sigma 10-20mm for wide angle

definitely the 18-55 mm VR. the slight increase in focal range doesnt suffice to compensate for its lack in VR technology, esp. when it comes to tele-end shots at low lighting conditions. if it's possible, i'd suggest a 18-105 mm VR (D90 kit lens), which imo, is an ideal walk-about lens of appropriate focal range (and of cos, being a cheaper alternative to the 18-200 mm VR as well).

I have both lens. I'm using the 18-70 much more than the 18-55VR. The tele end for both lens don't really require VR unless u manly shoot alot in dim lighting without flash. The 18-70 also got bigger aperture at the tele end.

I've been using my D40 with just my Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens.
I love this versatile lens...though I'm also looking at getting a Tamy 17-50 2.8, Sigma 10-20, and the 105mm macro lens.

within a month i got my D40, i got myself a 70-300mm VR and a 50mm f/1.8. kit lens is starting to become paperweights.

but seriously. kit lens from d40/x will last our insatiable hunger for at most 2 months. maybe not for d60 as it has well at least VR incorporated.

the 50mm f/1.8 is one of the best lens a newbie should get. doubles up as a portraiture lens can actually go wide as 80mm in fact.

do correct me if i'm wrong.

AFS 55-200 VR
AFD 50/1.8

realistically, next buy will be the AFS 50/1.4 (hopefully by feb 09, sell my AFD 50 and top up), thereafter the tammy 17-50 (sell AFS 18-55 kit lens and top up)...

then a AFS 105 micro...

then my personal holy grail...the nikkor 17-55/2.8 (get rid of the tammy 17-50 for this one)

I have the kit lens, 55-200 and 17-50.
While I use the 17-50 more often than the kit lens, i still keep it for those days at the beach when you just want to throw something on that you don't have to worry about too much. But that's just me
I'm seriously considering the 18-270 though

I have the D40x body but opted to get it without the kit lens cos the 18-55mmVR is just too short a zoom. Bought the following soon after....

1. Nikon AFS 18-135mm
2. Nikon AFS 70-300mm VR
3. Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8 - Manual focus since not AFS
4. Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 - Manual focus also
5. Sigma 150mm f/2.8 HSM

Added a teleconverter 1.4x recently as well.... now the 70-300mm is a 420mm equivalent on DX (Equivalant to 630mm on FX format) ! Hahaha !

Covers almost everything I think.....

I loan a 50mm 1.8 from Camera Rental and i use it with my D60
I manual focus it but it is very difficult as there green dot seems to appear for quite a small range so if I miss the abit the correct focus it will still be out of focus even though the green dot is still there

Any pros can help on this, I will be greatful

Have you tried enabling rangefinder?
