D4 User Thread

Yup. I am waiting for the D6. But very curious about the D4 issues.

Have no issues with the D4, however, many is right to say, if you're using D3S, the D4 shouldn't entice you.

Point to note is still video capturing on D4, only allows to write to one card, I cannot simultaneously do it to both CF/XQD. Kinda sad. Same for D800/E. Technology limitation?

My sensor's kinda dirty now too, just cleaned it myself, hope the next landscape shoot won't have to PS so much. LoL.

p/s: I don't do video, except when once I had the need to during a wedding, so just wondering how come.

Its mere a guess, but I suspect it has to do with the fact that both D800/E and D4 uses dual card slots, unique cards at that.

Not much a video guy myself, makes the D3S vs D4 even more so .... less compelling.

Hmm, might be, but if the D4 can record to CF, it wouldn't be an issue of speed right? Just thinking out aloud.

Let me go try on my D600, see if I can record to dual SDs.

lol don't think you can record to both cards.

hey guys, another D4 user here. Nice to meet everyone here!

hey fellow D4ers, please take note there is a new firmware released yesterday. You can download here D4 firmware A: 1.05 / B:1.03

Modification with firmware includes:
- Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.
- Auto white balance performance has been improved.
- Images are sharper and appear more three dimensional.
- With live view photography in [M] (Manual) exposure mode, exposure preview was always on. This issue has been resolved.
- With shooting at an image quality setting of TIFF (RGB) and an image size setting of Small, the right edge of images contained a purple line. This issue has been resolved.
- In some rare cases, images recorded in JPEG format could not be opened by some software applications. This issue has been resolved.
- In some very rare cases, colors would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific color temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.
...

Modifications enabled with this upgrade of firmware, release date January 29, 2013

- Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.

Thanks for the updates. The issues fixed seems very similar to D600/D800/E's. Hmm.

I hope the AF-C really works better now, sometimes it does lag out for me. Even the D600 is more accurate in times. Just updated the D600 yesterday, tonight will do the D4.

Anyone here knows the price of XQD card and its reader in Singapore?

Anyone here knows the price of XQD card and its reader in Singapore?

Last I asked from CP, 32GB S series, $600+.

Reader wise, none that I'm aware of in SG. Maybe you can ask CP. The prior sets of D4 comes with a reader and 16GB XQD.

Damn ! Will stick to my CF Cards. SLRR does not have any in stock when I asked.

Thanks for the additional pricing info. Much appreciated !

As I reside in China, it helps me make wasted trip all around town in the limited when I am next back in Singapore.

Can't agree more ! Thats exhorbitant price even for the performance.

Not quite sure where XQD is heading .... the upcoming D4S/X will be telling

I was hoping the A99 would go so way in predicting how the XQD format will pan out .... but alas

Just FYI, I ordered two pieces of 32GB H-series separately, with shipping from Amazon, end up is about $600.

Thanks for the heads up. Prices on amazon are indeed pretty good. Even the S-series are not too far off. And not to mention the CF cards galore!

Do factor in 7% GST when you stuff costing above S$400 (inclusive of shipping charges) arrives.
