I'm not saying canon just because I'm a user. in fact I tried out both the D3100 and 550D before. both are good cameras. :D

should try out how they feel in your hands before deciding. :D

My hands are fairly large so just in case I need to I will have to buy the battery grip as for the lens, more lens = more beginner level lenses to get = cheaper lenses :)

Is the 600D worth getting? I will be mainly taking pictures but taking video is a nice add; for those that asked.

imo the 550D is more worth than the 600D, as nothing much has changed. Unless, of course, they sell the 600D for the same price as the 550D.

Phottix will be releasing the battery grip for D3100 end of Feb.... thats one less thing to worry about...

forget about the 550D go for the 600d instead if you are going for Canon

So now its either the Nikon or the Canon. Just tried out the SLT-A55, it was slightly uncomfortable. Looks and feels smaller than the Nikon and Canon.

If you are going to be doing video, be sure to compare the autofocusing speed in liveview and video filming. Worlds apart.

But depends if this is an important factor for you.

kinda looks plasticky too right? ( just my opinion so dont flame me)

Quite true. But truth be told all 3 are quite plasticky

u like it big n heavy?? get 7d.

Not big and heavy but the A55 grip feels weird in my hands cause its smaller. 7D will be too heavy to carry around for me.

when i was pondering on my first DSLR purchase. One of the main points that got me into the nikon "camp" was the intangible ergonomics that played when i gripped the camera. I too found the entry level canon's and sony's very plasticky and a tad too light.

i tried all 3 cameras before, imo i dun really like the feel of canon 550d and i feel nikon is better and easier for changing settings on the go.. maybe i am just better used to nikon's settings. and i like the look of D3100 :D

IMHO the forum would be able to tell you the technical advantages and disadvantages of each system, but I feel you would be able to decide for yourself once you try them all. I would suggest going to a camera shop of your choice and ask if you can try all of them. Just my 2 cents.

between 550D and D3100, go for 550D for video but the later is cheaper tho..

or maybe u want to check Sony A580..
but wait.. it not sold in Singapore.. ;p
