I think generally, that's an OK way to think about the issue. If a lens is not labeled 'DX', then it can be used for film and digital full frame cameras, subject to the exclusions found at the Nikon link. The AF-D lens look good, no conditions attached. The only thing I worry about old lens is fungus.
