yup i read.. that's why i dont really get it.. i am using CS2 still.. So is the converter a stand alone software or is it to be run with PS?

it works with PS. it's transparent and if it works, you can open the NEF file like you would with any other files.

i don't think the v4.3.1 works with CS2. website already mentioned, it's for CS3.

if you are using CS2, you would need to use the converter to convert the NEF files. After you have done it, your CS2 & Adobe bridge should be able to read the files.

The patch/plug-in does not work with CS2, only CS3.

Hope this helps.

I too found Capture NX fast, though slower than CS3.

Amand, the disk that is provided with the D300 does NOT have Capture NX, but Transfer NX and View. You need to download Capture NX and use the key (in the black area of the sheet) to activate. I believe that it is the full version.

the CD that came with my D300 contains the installation for Capture NX. it is in a separate CD from the Transfer NX and View.

Hmmm. You mean the latest ACR versions are only meant for CS3?

Isn't that like forcing just about everyone who used to use ACR on CS2 and bought a camera recently to upgrade to CS3 or find alternative RAW processing software?

to those of you who successfully opened D300 NEF files using Capture NX... kindly let me know what version is your copy of Capture NX.

mine is as such...

"Capture NX Version 1.3 - 23092
SPM Version 1.2.0"

so, is mine v1.3 or v1.2???

currently, i can't open NEF files from the D300.

hmm... SPM version 1.2.0 think it is wrong :dunno:
mine is SPM version 1.3.0.

Convert all the NEF files to DNG and you will be able to process your images in CS2.
Hope this helps.

mine is SPM version 1.3.0.

downloaded the 1.3.0 update. it's now SPM Version 1.3.0.

bloody hell, they included a version in the package which is not compatible with the cam out-of-the-box  :bsmilie:

eh... i think there is some misunderstanding.. i know i need to convert to the adobe raw format from my NEF.. but how? i downloaded the zip file, and all it has is a plugin.. which my CS2 cannot defect or run??

Anyways, i have already switch to Lightroom and it's lesser hassle... Thanks Everyone...

what you have downloaded is just a plug-in for CS3 to be able to open NEF files taken by the D300 and D3 (i believe). it is not a stand-alone program where you use it to convert NEF to Adobe DNG.

anyway, glad to know that you have found an alternative solution to your problems.
