Cool! Adding another thanks for sharing the info.

you are right, just upgraded mine to 1.1, all data setting still remain unchange. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the notification.
Will try out this weekend!

It's certainly comforting to know that all settings will not be affected. Thanks all for sharing!

Updated my beloved D300 firmware and the previous settings still there, no need to re-enter.

The first thing I noticed upon limited amount of playing was:
- Auto white balance performance has been improved.

Anyone else experienced this? Seems to have improved the colour of photos by not a small margin!

I am thrilled!

wow! tt's great!

if only Nikon would be kind enough to improve on the already quite good high ISO/low noise performance... but then people wouldn't go for the D700/D3...

That could be difficult if not impossible - it is the law of physics already etched into CMOS, i.e. already etched into your sensor. A new iteration of the design can improve this high ISO/low noise thingy but I don't think a software change can do this, unlike white balance.

No matter, some day I will have my FX body.

Thanks a lot. :)

Just updated mine.

maybe Nikon should seriously consider modular sensors such that you just need to change sensor instead of buying the whole new body...

now wouldn't that be nice :)

Some of us want a digital back for FM2/FE2/FA/FM3/FM/FE, just slap it on the good old manual body of yonder and off you go... how cool, how retro, and yet totally updated!

But, physics apply here, although they don't in Bond movies. Slap in the sensor and draw power from the LR44? My guess is you can't get more than 1 shot. So you need a battery pack. Add in the software and LCD screen, damn the back is going to be big...

Perhaps just the sensor and an external battery pack, no LCD for review, won't that be cool.

OT liao.

Cool ........................ like buying a digital back ? .........................

Hope that Nikon can also come up with a new firmware to improve the AF of the D700 ............ ;)

Please try to keep the thread clean by not posting stuffs not related to the firmware update. Thanks :)

There are several posts on other forums showing improved auto WB under artificial lightings and with pictures to show

Please share your opinions, complaints and pictures on the new update ;)

The line "Auto white balance performance has been improved" is in the list of changes for firmware v1.10.

So discussing how the firmware update changes WB, I should say, is definitely related to the firmware update. Thanks.

But not so for the posts on modular sensor, digital back etc.

wonder if anyone can help... tried to update the Firmware... my D300->Menu->Setup Menu->Firmware Version->A1.03 B1.03->Done... I don't have a "Update" selection like how the instruction shown... something wrong?

I brought my camera to Nikon for servicing few months back (clean sensor) and Nikon told me they have upgraded the Firmware for me (which is my current version) so i never really did it myself...

Check if you have put the firmware at the right level. Remember to put only the A firmware v1.10 first at the top-most level in the card. You should be able to see the "Update" option available. After updating A firmware, delete it and put in only B firmware v1.10 also at the top-most level, if using the same card.

Nikon had just released the latest firmware update v1.10 for the D300. Notable updates include improved performance for focus acquisition for dynamic area AF, contrast detect AF and improvement in auto WB. Firmware can be downloaded here
Thanks for the info! just updated my cam. need to take some shots to see the improvements

hmm, looks like they will never be able to allow the D300 to automatically sense the color gels used on the sb-900 like what d3 or d700 can...
