The rubber grip on my D1x is peeling off everywhere ...any idea how much does Nikon Servincing in SG charge for replacing the grip (left, right and CF cover)?
My personal experience with the replacement of F80 rubber grip at nikon service center.
Was told that, the back rubber grip is not replaceable, the whole back panel has to be replaced.
Together with the front rubber grip + back panel, it cost around S$141.00.
I don't about D1x's rubber grip structure, but hope this information helps.
As far as I know NSC Singapore does not sell these kind of spare parts.
They would recommend you to bring it down for them to make an estimation and only with your approval, then they would start work on it.
supa4, the D1x has 4 pieces of rubber grip - front left, front right, connector cover on the front and the CF door cover. They are all replacable without need to disassemble the camera much. To install the right grip the CF door has to be removed and a small panel under it slightly loosen so that a tab on the runnger grip can be inserted.
I have already fixed the CF door grip myself. I removed it, and cut it back to size and re-attached it with rubber cement. That was not too hard.
The front grips are too complicated for hand trimming, so my only option is to replace them with new ones.
Seems like buying them from ebay is the way tog go for me. The only one available is for D1 and the stipe on the right hand grip is red instead of grey.
I just called up a local authorised Nikon service center (in Seattle) and they simply refuse to quote me over the phone and insist that I bring the camera down for a more accurate estimate. I don't like being treated like an idiot, but I guess they have to try their best to protect their business. I mean, I said clearly, how much does it cost to replace the rubber grip on my D1x and the guy on the phone said the technician has to look at it first, no matter how I probed. What so complicated about giving an estimate and stating the conditions? A simple answer such as "assuming we have to replace all the grips it will cost $xxx" would do right?
